FlyingH Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Have any of you been testing the W 10? If so how does BoS comply with the new platform? I have sigend up for an automatic DL on june 29 but I guess I can choose when and where to install. Planing on installing on an SSD that I have laying around.
JG27_Chivas Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Have you gotten a June29th date? I know we can sign up for the download now, but the downloads won't start until August.
skline00 Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 I think the date is JULY 29th? I've had Win 10 preview running on my 3770k rig since the beginning and the latest build I have (??130) is really solid. Both of my rigs run 8.1 but Win 10 seems like the "real deal" so I'm going to go with it. BOS runs well on Win 10.
No_85_Gramps Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 Build 10130 is pretty solid. There are some differences but for the most part BOS runs great in Win 10. You can no longer alt-tab to the desktop from a running program but you can alt-tab to programs that are running. There is a new desktop manager that I have not experimented with. I did find that if I run BOS in full-screen mode and alt-tab BOS will minimize and then it hangs. Pretty sure this is a WIn 10 issue, not a BOS issue. There are still some kinks being worked out but overall Win 10 runs well. There is a lot of info out there regarding 10, you might want to check out this site: http://www.tenforums.com/ , tons of info re Win 10. I also thought the release date was 7/29/15.
Static Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Currently using the 10147 build as my main OS, so far so good. Also Stardock has Start10 beta to get rid or tweak the win10 start menu.
taleks Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Win7 users should think twice. That's a jump to another world. Win 8.1 users will get the same 8.1 with improvements, thus no harm in upgrading. IMHO, 10 is more mature than 8.1 and pretty stable in recent releases. BUT: I'd wait a week or two, e.g. till middle of the August, because let others testify and gather big scale statistics, is it smooth as silk automated upgrading or infested with troubles.
No_85_Gramps Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 I'll keep working with the preview builds as long as they are available. I will probably wait a few weeks after the initial release of 10 to actually commit to an upgrade from 8.1. Build 10147 is very stable but not without some little glitches. I don't think, from my little tests, that performance will be any better, we'll have to wait and see what the final version looks like. I have not done an upgrade yet, I test 10 on a separate hard drive.
Urra Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Are you already able to use two different gpu's (one standard along with the imbeded gpu on the motherboard or cpu?). This was something that was advertised a while back...

This was something that was advertised a while back... This is supposed to be a function of DX12 and it appears developers would have to work this into their programs. Interesting concept.

When you get a chance can you see if windows update is working for you with the 10147 build, when I try running windows update it just loops with the loading beads at the top? I have noticed my read/ write transfer rate of files from one SSD to another SSD has increased by a good amount from windows 8.1 speeds. Mine is working okay, extremely slow though, the beads keep looping but after a minute or so it generally gets the new defender update. Have not seen any other updates.
Static Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Weird! My does not even find any defender updates. I even did the repair for windows updates and still nothing. Maybe it has to do with some services I disabled using black vipers windows 10 service tweaks. But I doubt that is the issue since windows 10 preview forces updates even with registry tweaks. Oh well! Thanks for checking for me. Cheers!!

I think internally MS is at 10160, maybe this week we'll get a new official build.
Dakpilot Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 Are you already able to use two different gpu's (one standard along with the imbeded gpu on the motherboard or cpu?). This was something that was advertised a while back... This was available before (Win7 DX9) using Lucid logic virtua MPV software, I built a whole system with the intention of using this tech, it worked very well and gave a noticeable decent FPS boost..enough to run a bit of extra AA, seemed stupid to have a decent on board GPU sitting idle when some resources could be directed to it, however support seemed to stop with newer graphics drivers or some other company bought them out, it was included with Asus MB's, after getting frustrated with the support I gave up with it Cheers Dakpilot
No_85_Gramps Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Build 10158 now available to fast ring users. Also, thanks Dakpilot for the blurb about multiple GPU usage. Interesting.
