Multiplayer Anecdote Observation

So, got online tonight, saw MP as the ghost town it always is. Tumble weeds bouncing around and all. Decided, I'll just fly on New Wings because, hey, the game is fun to fly so instead of flying offline in QMB or on one of my own maps, I'll just fly on this map.

Started flying around and before I knew it, there were 8 people on the server.

Now I know that 8 people isn't much, but it appears that, if people are on, people will join. Seems like people get on, see nobody on, then leave. Maybe if more of us would just jump in and fly for awhile, more people would trickle in....maybe not, but that was the impression I came away with.

By the way, the New Wings server seems to be fairly well done.

I fly EU time so there is always around 48 on hardcore and 30 on normal at around 19:00 GMT.

I'm +100 for what u said about people being around but not joining. At later times utvwill go quiet so i will often sit with the game open in the back ground watching for people to join. I have had it where iv joined with 5 mates when no body is on then all of a sudden there is 20-30 people on.

I think more people need to use the bos launcher so they can monitor who is online with out opening the game

And for what it's worth, I've notice quite a few new people on 'Normal' in the last few weeks.  Interesting times maybe.

I know at least 15 people, me included that dont play but still hope the UFO issues get resolved and multiplayercapacity to be increased.

Since there even isnt any official statement on how or even IF at all those issues are being worked on my hopes remain small.

Just browsing by every now and then.

I agree that if people join different servers they tend to bring more people in. It's something we're going to experiment with.

Personally I am getting sick of the WOL server as it's just turning in to a bomb spamming quake fest, half the time we fly on there the map is rolled before we even get to land.

That's exactly the issue. Theres always only 1 fully crowded Expert and 1 half full Normal server running at a time.

If sby wants to play an expert session and sees it's full already he basicly has no way to go but leave the game. On the other hand playing on an expert server with less than 30 actively flying people on it is pointless given the great size of the maps and the variety of mission objectives to accomplish.

If I start the game and see 1 Expert server with 48 and another with 15 people on it I just leave the game right away due to that. Others probably do the same resulting in a chain reaction.

The result is a lot of unhappy guys who'd like to fly but don't like spending hours on ghost servers flying solo sorties.

BoS has neither a fun instant action nor large scale mission based MP to offer currently. To envolve it has to settle on either feauturing quick mission servers with small maps and low player cap or raise the player cap to help filling the large scale servers with more people.

I miss the dual server, that was always fun to join when you couldn't get in a game, or no one was on.

This Game is online orientated and I have this experience from the Multiplayer part.

  • Each flight record is corrupted that I recorded during a Multiplayer session. Why?! Planes jump when they fly, Hits are not at the place where the plane is, Landing looks like dig in and dig out.
  • I counted that 100 people are online and play Multiplayer but not more? I wonder if the game was only 100 times sold? I wonder what the other players do?????

I dont play MP due to the issues mentioned above and single player dogfights inevitably end up in a continual turn at low altitude.  I just dont have any motivation to fire it up anymore. I also cannot get rid of a terrible blurring artifact when aircraft are close to clouds that destroys the immersion and throws off my aim.  I really want this game to thrive, but I cant even get myself excited about it anymore.

Here's to hoping that there is enough momentum to keep it alive and grow as the original IL-2 eventually did.

Cheers!

I think of it as some kind of motivation to defend the targets (since I fly mostly axis). One thing that I really dislike is the stupid freaking clouds starting at 500m and extending for the whole map. But that is another matter...

Well, my friends and I are spending our Friday and Saturday gaming time playing ArmA III instead.

We have many laughs, play with our own settings on a server that one of us hosts from our own machine whenever we want to, without needing permission from the dev team to do so, and set up missions with as many AI as we want with no worries about it not working.

We all have BoS, but none of us have played it in weeks now.  No reason to really until it improves, vastly.

Have you tried out Coconut's mission he made? It spawns AI and has bombing targets etc. You obviously would still need to run the Dserver (unless his server is up) but from what I saw it looks a lot of fun and ideal for a small number of friends to play.

ARMA3 is on my list of games to revisit soon, the series is also one of my favorites ever.

Interesting.

People want objective based missions in a non-quake atmosphere with like minded individuals looking to have a good time.
Friday Night Bomber Flights needs a few more VVS jockeys to round out this weeks mission.

Thanks,

+1

I play other games, too. I switch between Console and PC games to have fun with my friends.

If they hold this direction I see dark for this game.
