guidom Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 Hi dee ho fliers, I've recently purchased a Freesync capable monitor which does some pretty nice things with my AMD R9 290 graphics card. in other software the freesync works perfectly, but I have not been able to get it to work in IL2BOS. this is a shame as the tearing is very noticable in BOS with Vsync off, and I was hoping to alleviate this problem. I'd like to know if Freesync is actually supported by the IL2BOS engine, or if this planned to be introduced in a later patch etc. Muchos gracias, Guido
guidom Posted June 1, 2015 Author Posted June 1, 2015 "That's just like your opinion, man" as The Dude would say. I've done a bit of digging and think it may be to do with the fact the IL2 engine runs under DX9, whereas the Freesync standard is based on DX10. Any one else finding the same?
No601_Prangster Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 Freesync is a hardware solution and has no relationship to game engines or Direct X. It simple matches the refresh rate of the monitor to the GPU FPS output. Nothing the developers can do to help because whatever the problem is it's not BoS.
guidom Posted June 1, 2015 Author Posted June 1, 2015 Hence I am asking the forums if anyone else has noticed my problems with Freesync. If I thought there was a problem with BOS I would raise a ticket. There are other questions on this forum related to other hardware, such as joysticks, Track IR etc. which is not related directly to BOS. I look forward to hearing from anyone who has actually tried the sim with Freesync capable equipment and/or has something constructive to say.
LLv44_Mprhead Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Any news about this one? I have been thinking of getting freesync monitor myself...

Freesync Support for DX9 started from Radeaon Software Crimson released a few days ago, of course freesync is applied in the software. You might be thinking of variable refresh rate, Freesync is AMD's take on it using the standard. I used crimson and it worked but I reverted back to 15.11 (catalyst) and Freesync is no longer working in IL-2 crossfire. Astrix, thanks for the reply. I have installed the Crimson drivers too, performance is greatly improved and the Freesync now appears to be working (on my single R290). So it looks like DX9 support was the culprit. Woohoo!
