Rude_Toon Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 So it can be used in ROF...will we have it in this title? It is a lot of fun to use.
Rude_Toon Posted October 17, 2013 Author Posted October 17, 2013 Everyone is saying "sure" and "of course" but to use the IR tracker the program has to allow for it, or it wont function properly. That is my only concern. Or am I missing something and should not be concerned? Best
SvAF/F16_Goblin Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Hi RT, Rise of Flight has already TiR support and BoS also have it implemented and it's shownin the live stream videos amongst other. So no worries mate. It's there. //

No offense, but your original question was highly rhetorical.

That is my only concern. Or am I missing something and should not be concerned? Best I think the question would be "why wouldn't BoS support TrackIR?" TrackIR is now considered by most sim fans as important as joystick support and I don't recall a sim released in the last 10 years that didn't ship with TrackIR support. Also the head of 777 Studios - Jason, used to work at Naturalpoint so he knows full well the benefits of the system.
CIA_Luth Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 I still use the reliable hat-switch. don't leave home without it
[JG2]Surf Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 I still use the reliable hat-switch. don't leave home without it I use it too. For Map view, gunsight on/off, etc.
Dutch2 Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 TrackIR5 is great, if it is not broken, a typical sample of lets pay the costumers a huge price and we deliver low quality. Never saw such a bad made hardware design. I hope soon a descent alternative will enter the flysim community, maybe the Kinect II 1
PA-Sniv Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 (edited) Cheaper alternative exists: FaceTrack no IR - free but need a webcam Hat-track (with 6 dof) - around $100 Never tried them though... Edited October 27, 2013 by PA-Sniv

M4rgaux Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I personally use Facetracknoir with the point tracker and a homemade cap. This work very well with a bit of configuration (removing camera autoexposure to have some decent fps, tweaking the curve etc…) Total cost was 30€ (using a quickcam c170). However i'm not happy with the cap, I'll make a headset clip as the time allow.

I hope soon a descent alternative will enter the flysim community, maybe the Kinect II Fwiw, I have used Track IR for many years, starting with the Track IR 3, then added the Vector Expansion, then Track IR4, and now Track IR5. I have not had an issue at all with any of them. Now there was an issue where the track clip pro had a weak part of it's design, that was prone to breaking easily if not handled carefully, they have redesigned and improved that though. In fact shortly after doing this, they replaced several users track clip pro that had broken, with the new design at no charge. Certainly some competition in that department would help, both quality and pricewise I am sure, and I am really surprised there has not been any for a commercial product to compete with them, in all these years. I certainly can say, I have not been disappointed with any of my Track IR purchases.
White1 Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Hi guys. I have a question regarding 'best' settings for TrackIR5. It keeps jumping and snapping when I wanna check down left and right to see handles and stuff in the LaGG. I use the clip. Thanks for input.
JaMz Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 No issues with either TrackIr 3 or 5 in my years of flght simming.. Its been dropped of the back of the monitor countless times and works perfectly...I always thought the Build qual was pretty good anyway
Sim Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Hi guys. I have a question regarding 'best' settings for TrackIR5. It keeps jumping and snapping when I wanna check down left and right to see handles and stuff in the LaGG. I use the clip. Thanks for input. It depends on the distance between the clip and TrackIR. Basically, the only way to get it working properly is to use the TrackIR software to fine-tune a custom profile for BoS. Since BoS is still in alpha - it's not on the list of supported games, so basically you need to create a new profile, tweak the various response curves and set the profile as "exclusive" so it's used in BoS.

In paper it sounds better, but I'm not sure that I should spend 175€+ for newer version?

In paper it sounds better, but I'm not sure that I should spend 175€+ for newer version? I went from a TIR4 to a TIR5 last year, imho if you already have a 4 then no probably not worth spending the money on a 5 to replace it, unless you just want the latest and greatest. If you don't have either yet, I would suggest going ahead and getting the 5 as it has higher resolution and just seems to be more smooth and solid to me. Unless the difference in money is a big concern, then yes the 4 will work very nicely as well. 1
Zwoop Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Thanks to your reply, dburnette. Yes, I have TR4 + TrackClip. Maybe I just try to stick with this old version.. ...unless you just want the latest and greatest Yes, that's the problem, you said it!
dburne Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 (edited) Yes, that's the problem, you said it! You are quite welcome, and yes that is the reason I went from the 4 to the 5 as well. Well one more thing that is different - the 5 imho has a better mounting mechanism, I like the way it clamps to the monitor better, and the way the camera attaches to the mount with a magnet. Still probably not enough to justify going from 4 to 5, but still there is that difference. Just thought I would tempt ya a little more Edited November 22, 2013 by dburnette
Krig Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Im bumping this one. Anyone have a good profile? The one im using now makes it hard to check the dashboard and trim wheels, And while im at it. Can you get a "snapp" zoom? i want push button zoom in, release the button it goes to max out zoom. Is that possible? im running out of buttons!

Is that possible? im running out of buttons! Why do you want to make a snapp zoom for this? You can use TiR for that just move your head in and out.

I did nothing to my TrackIr 4 for BOS other than to use it. Still using the same speed and smoothing I've used for years. I didn't even tweak them. Bottom line ? No problems with TrackIr and BOS, none at all.

I am having issues but I think my issues with my TIR 4 but I think my issues are associated with my OS.

dburne Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 I am using TIR 5 and it works fine with BoS Yeah same here, got my first access this weekend and it was worked great from the getgo.
keet Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 I used FreeTrack with a homemade three-light clip and an old modified Logitech webcam (I removed the infrared filter and taped on a light filter), and it worked very well once I adjusted my webcam's sensitivity and the output curves correctly. However, I have been using FaceTrackNoIR recently with a more recent Logitech C525 webcam, and it's been working, though I need to turn on a light in front of me for it to detect me properly.
Bando Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 @ Rude Toon: Maybe you are looking for IL2 BoS in the game list of the TIR software. It is not there. Does not really matter. Whenever you start the TIR software before starting the IL2 BoS sim, you'll get it working in the sim. It's that simple.
