Bearcat Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 Joshua Nash and wife killed in crash.I thought the film A Beautiful Mind was a great film. That film was to schizophrenics what Flight was to alcololics...
johncage Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 yeah but flight was a purely fictional heroics while this was based on a real person who made real impacts in the world of mathematics. and while substance abuse is a sad thing, there's no prevention or complete cure for mental illnesses like schizophrenia. the personal responsibility is much greater in that of the drug abuser.
Bearcat Posted May 25, 2015 Author Posted May 25, 2015 I am not talking about the heroics.. or morality.. I am talking about the portrayal of a facet of the nature of alcoholism ... just as ABM did a good job of portraying one aspect of the nature of schizophrenia.
Mastermariner Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 The mental ability of some people is certainly mindboggling to us ordinary nincompoops. However it often seems to come with a price tag, something else is missing or askew. The man was truly a genius in his field and truly deserved the Nobel Prize, but I think it's wrong to administer a prize in economics since it leads to the erroneous conclusion that macro economics is a scientific topic that can be explained, predicted and controlled. Master 1
Cybermat47 Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 I unfortunately haven't heard of him before, but his death is still a tragedy. Rest in peace.

Master when more complex machines break down, they're harder to fix.
