So I have been getting into sims recently and I could use some answers for my setup.

Currently I am using a logitech extreme 3d pro joystick, I have a Hotas thrustmaster x just sitting there that I have used once I just dont like the way it feels (no resistance). Will that simple logitech be enough to play IL2 or should I start using the Hotas?

Also I hate having to use a keyboard, would investing in some sort of gameboard like the Razer Nostromo be wise to set up engine controls and such?

I am VERY new to flight sims but I am hooked any help or advice would be great. I do have a moderate gaming budget so if there is something you personally cant live without in your setup please share it and let me know why. :)

Thanks in advance

(I do have Track IR 5, figure everyone will say get that)

Thrustmaster hotas seems to be slightly superior, but both will get you started fine.

I was interested in a Nostromo for an MMO. Tried it in a store and found it very cheap and ramshackly, so i didn't bought it.

I would say save the 60$ and if you can afford to add 80$ get this: Saitek X52 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA00Y0PW2794

Christmas is coming up..... Depending on your religion :)

TrackIR, Saitek X whatever (E-bay is your friend) that will do it at first. Best, Allons!

This depends, what you have now will get you started, then it's a matter of taste if you want first to get pedals or new hotas, or maybe just throttle. If I remember correctly, that logitech joystick had actually rather good feel (also matter of taste ofc), so I would give a thought of keeping it and getting separate throttle and pedals.

The Hotas X has a knob on the underside of the stick, that adjusts the tension, just an FYI. You might want more tension than it provides, but it's worth trying.

I would suggest a simple throttle quadrant like the Saitek one, proper throttle, pitch and mixture/radiator with 6 extra buttons. A cheap way to get the most out of your aircraft even if it does have some longevity issues. Then later if you want to spend more, a full hotas +rudder set up. but a proper throttle quadrant is the only way to get a decent WWII prop aircraft control, all of the hotas systems are really meant for jets...
