361fundahl Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Agreed... I'd rather see better accuracy in other areas.
SharpeXB Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 If you shoot and drop a drop a bullet simultaniously they will still hit the ground at the same time. Of course Mythbusters did an episode on this one :-D
361fundahl Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 I guess that is assuming as close to horizontal shot as possible?
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Yes to horizontal. It should also be mentioned that firearms have a bit of angle built into them between the bore and the sights. This contributes to the arc of the bullet. It seems relatively flat on very short targets and, in fact, can have a considerable arc/drop on extremely long distance shots. There are other factors as well. An AR-15, AK and other weapons with tall sights in relation to the bore also have a mechanical offset. There is a lot of science going on when you pull the trigger.
SharpeXB Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 (edited) I guess that is assuming as close to horizontal shot as possible?Sure. It's a great episode. They do a lot of gun myths that are really interesting. Now gun rounds with different weights do have different trajectories. Not because of gravity but wind resistance and inertia I'm sure. The A-10 shows two different impact points on the gun reticle for AP and HE rounds when Combat Mix is selected which has both types. Of course that difference is only significant at ranges of about a mile. Edited May 22, 2015 by SharpeXB
