Crash to desktop in MissionManager.dll

I've noticed what seems to be the same crash occurring in multiple occasions. The game crashes after about 45 minutes. Not always, though, it's not a deterministic bug. It often happens on the way back from the objective in a bombing mission, but it has also happened to me as I was taking off a few minutes after spawning.

 

When the game crashes, a window offering to debug the program appears. I accept, which starts Visual Studio 2013 (which I have on my PC for work reasons). I can't see much there without the symbols, but the game crashes at address 0x03086161 which is in MissionManager.dll, which is loaded at address 0x02f70000 (the addresses vary on each execution, I suppose).

 

In all my crashes, the address of the program counter was in MissionManager.dll, at an address ending with 6161.

 

This happened while testing a mission I'm developing. The server was running on the same PC at that time (but from a copy of the installation directory, if that matters). DServer.exe was unaffected though. I can log back in to the mission and spawn a new plane.

 

I'm running Win8.1 64-bit, graphics card is an NVidia GTX 970 with driver version 350.12. The CPU is an intel core i5 4690K.

It's the second time I'm getting a crash following the same steps, and maybe the steps I followed can help reproduce the bug:

 

1. Start the server

2. Start the client

3. Connect to the server

4. Choose Russian side, Bubenovo

5. Pick Pe2 "Mission 1"

6. Taxi to the runway, but don't get on the runway

EDIT; 6b: start recording Ctrl-R

7. Let the 2 AIs taxi to the runway and position themselves

8. As they take off, move in to the runway, position and take off

9. Stay close to the formation leader during the climb and the cruise to the objective. For the cruise, I use 75% pitch, and adjust throttle to stay between 260kph and 300kph. I don't know if flying in formation is needed, but that's what I was doing both times it crashed.

10. When the AI tells you to await the drop order, go into the bomb sight and adjust your parameters. The target is the railroad bridge on the line going to the north. There is a road bridge just beside it.

11. Drop your bombs, stay in the bomb sight

12. The AI should say something in Russian, I think it's the "stop and rejoin formation" radio message.

13. Crash to desktop happens shortly after.

 

I have a feeling that what causes the crash is the destruction of the bridge, and possibly some of the logic it triggers. Strangely enough, it's the client that crashes, not the server.

 

I have also tried the mission in single player mode, and never had a crash.

 

I have tried shortening the travel time by spawning the AIs before the turn to the objective (I added an airstart for the player close to the bombers), but that never triggered the crash. Maybe there is something in the long flight to the objective that is required to cause the crash.

For what it's worth, my last two test runs on the mission did not crash. What I changed in the mission: groups of multiple dynamically spawned AAAs no longer spawn individual AAAs all at the same time, and the attack order they receive after spawning is delayed by 15s, instead of 1s.
