MrHemlocks Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 (edited) I bought the game about a month ago, tries it and stopped playing after not een being able to take off correctly. It was a combination of lack of skill, confusing key control setup and most of all NO game instructions. Recently I came across Chuck's IL-2 game manual and stated reading it. Great so for! So, I decided to try the game again, using the manual, and plan to now stick with it. I did not buy the premium edition...just standard. It did not come with the IL2 Strumovik unlocked. Are all plans now unlocked with the recent patch? I am coming from War Thunder so have lots to learn in order to play this sim. Edited May 17, 2015 by MrHemlocks

You will need to make the first 4 Tutorial Missions in Campaign to get started and then you will be able to unlock some planes whuile others are already free: In IL2-Menu go to 'Profile', you will see something like in the first picture I attached. Some planes have those small green plane-markers. Click a plane shown (second attached picture) and you will see what features it will unlock: Tadaa: For Il2-Sturmovik you will need to fly LaGG till you reach a fixed amount of points (not so many actually and then you will be able to fly Il-2). Good luck!

6./ZG26_Emil Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 For tactics and maneuvers he made these excellent videos. They are from ROF but the principle is the same. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCW_ZxFL1P9XDx-qjX2U5jog

II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 (edited) Welcome aboard. When you are ready for tactics don't forget Dart's videos, either. Still some of the best out there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebBI0CJX7LY&list=PLCF28CF6727666684 Edited May 17, 2015 by HerrMurf

The unlocks are a pain in the butt.... but they are doable and can actually be engaging enough depending on how you fly them.. The campaign itself is the biggest issue with the unlocks.. but one thing the campaign will do.. again depending on how you fly it.. it will give you an appreciation for the possibilities of this sim..
Sokol1 Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Unlocks easy: buy the Premium planes. Tah-dah. The magic button appear.
-TBC-AeroAce Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Can be tricky at first but stick with it and u will have no regrets !!!!
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 -snip- but one thing the campaign will do.. again depending on how you fly it.. it will give you an appreciation for the possibilities of this sim.. Wow... That's an incredibly interesting way of putting it.
Bearcat Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 Well that is what it did for me... I always had a problem in role plaing anyway so a lot of campaigns were just not for me.. but the campaign for me showed me a lot of what was possible with BoS even though to this day there are still some things about it at it's core that I just do not like .. and some of them probably won't change ... but I can still see great promise in this if it just survives it's first year or two .. Especially if they make some of the major changes.. like presets and a more user friendly FMB.. and some of the smaller changes ... like fine tuning the difficulty settings for an even more precise game setting.. including adjustable icons like in 46.. putting trims on an axis for another thing.. very annoying for me... but it is what it is so I try to enjoy what it is and what it does rather than let what it is not and what it does not do deter me from getting some kind of return on my investment with game play. That is why I bought it.. to fly it...
=CFC=Conky Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 Hello MrHemlock, You don't really need the unlocks to play the single-player campaign and you'll get better weapons for the fighters pretty quickly. That said, if your tastes run towards flying bombers, getting all the goodies might be a bit of work (at least it is for me... ). I'm currently about ten missions into the campaign and already have bombs for the German fighters so ground attack, especially in the FW-190, is a lot more fun. As Bearcat says, there are some things that could be improved but at the moment I'm enjoying the sim a lot. Good hunting, Conky
