SharpeXB Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 I'm comsidering an upgrade from Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium to Pro. Any reason that wouldn't be a good idea with BoS?
SYN_Vorlander Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 NO, BUT WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO? iTS NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING TOWARDS BETTER GAMING! . 1
SharpeXB Posted May 13, 2015 Author Posted May 13, 2015 (edited) Home Premium is limited to 16GB of RAM wheras Pro will allow me to use 32GB. Probably this is no improvement for running games but tasks like video editing will improve I suppose. I already own the RAM modules but can't use them currently. I've also read that your VRAM should not exceed system RAM. Until recently that wasn't likely for most PCs but now I have 24GB of VRAM. Don't really know the truth but there's one way to find out. SYN_Vorlander Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Ok. Did not know that about the RAM and the windows versions. Thanx.
SharpeXB Posted May 14, 2015 Author Posted May 14, 2015 Just correcting myself here. This business about VRAM and system RAM being related is out of date advice. And SLI doesn't actually mean 24 GB of VRAM anyways. So what I'd read about this elsewhere was incorrect.
novicebutdeadly Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 (edited) Would more than 16GB help this game?On the box (I found the game at my local gaming store) they recommend 6GB (min was like 4 GB).You would prob be better off putting that money towards a new CPU and MOBO (I would go a 2011, because from the comparisons I did on the site "CPU BOSS" there isn't really a 1150 CPU that in a big way out performs my 3570). Most games run just fine on even a 3570 at standard, let alone what you have (3770K @ 4.7GHz), or at least from my browsing on "Game debate", which allows you to enter the specs of your system, and even shows you were your "bottle neck" is, and if it even matters. For example I will post a link for my computer for the game Cliffs of Dover in my first link, and far cry 4 in my second link (I do have a 3570K, but since it's not OC I will use a 3570): http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=1499&game=IL-2+Sturmovik%3A+Cliffs+of+Dover&p_make=Intel&p_deriv=Core+i5-3570+3.4GHz&gc_make=Nvidia&gc_deriv=GeForce+GTX+970+Asus+Strix+OC+4GB+Edition&ram=16&checkSubmit=#systemRequirementshttp://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=8147&game=Far+Cry+4&p_make=Intel&p_deriv=Core+i5-3570+3.4GHz&gc_make=Nvidia&gc_deriv=GeForce+GTX+970+Asus+Strix+OC+4GB+Edition&ram=16&checkSubmit=#systemRequirementsI hope this helps you decide, on what to do next (if you want to build a new system "Game Debate" should also be able to help you, as it will allow you to "test" different system setups).~S~ Edited May 14, 2015 by novicebutdeadly

No_85_Gramps Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Having played around with the Windows 10 Tech Preview you might want to look into that. The RTM version is due in July (last I read) and it will be a free upgrade for all Win 7/8/8.1 users. I set it up on a spare hard drive to test it out. It still has some issues but it is pretty stable at this point.

Urra Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Is BoS OK in W10? Someone already mentioned about a month ago they were happy with it on 10...don't remember who it was.
No_85_Gramps Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 Is BoS OK in W10? Yes, at least for me it has been stable. Didn't notice any change in performance in either direction. I ran BOS alongside Opentrack and FRAPS, everything worked as it should. Haven't had a chance to play around with the NVIDIA settings yet, they released a beta driver for Win 10. 1
