in the long range do you think we will see any bomber missions in Europe like the missions that the Mighty 8th flew. or we could always have a few missions based on the RAF and our long range bombers or even the German bombing missions in 1939. what do you think.

Propably not in this sim (which is why I think this belongs in the 'Free Subject' subforum and not here)

I would absolutely love to see the night time raids of Bomber Command and the efforts of the German night fighter force to stop them, being the focus of a modern sim.

Tbh. though, I would prefer it being done as a full blown study-sim like DCS and not a slightly simplified combat sim like BoS. The night bombing campaign was a viscious battle on technology, and you just can't accurately portray that without simulating all the little intricate details.

Besides, the majority of activity in night bombing missions would be non-combat stuff like navigation, target identification, avoiding flak concentrations and trying to jam the enemys radar. You'd need all the details to make that enjoyable.

Obviously the DCS engine is not fit to properly render the graphics of a night time operation, and a huge amount of content, in form of a gigantic map and at least a dozen planes.

Yet, who knows where DCS is going with EDGE? It might become feasible within a year or two, though it'd obviously take longer to create such a sim.

They already covered the RAF with Cliffs of Dover, IL-2 NEEDS to progress in the war. I've been preaching this forever. With the amazing job they did developing this game, flying in Western Europe would be really revolutionary. Imagine B-17's, 24's, 38's, 47's, 51's, 109G's, 190D's, Typhoons, 410's, 217's, shit maybe even 262's (262s vs 51s would be no different than the current lagg vs g-2)..

This flight simulator would be nothing short of mind blowing.

And out of 15 years, the Western European theatre is the ONLY theatre IL-2 hasn't covered.

We've had so much early war/Eastern Front, it's burning out, time for something new.

Like some of ur ideas but 262 v 51 would not be like g2 v lagg as 262 was almost 160 kph quicker than most planes of the time

That 160kph doesn't mean anything when they turn...

So wrong. Il-2 1946 had Normandy, Ardennes, Berlin, fictional NW Europe map and you have Channel map with mods. It had Spits Mk. V, IX, VIII, Mossie, Beaufighter, Hurricanes (several marks), B-25, A-20, P-38, P-39, P-40, P-47, P-51, Bf-109 G-2, G-6, G-6/AS, G-10, G-14, K-4, FW-190 (A-4, A-5, A-6, A-8, A-9, F-8, D-9 (two versions)), Me-262 (all versions, even imaginary ones), Ar-234, Ju-88, He-111... and more, I'm getting tired. All that without mods - with mods it has 4 engine bombers, Griffon spits, etc...

Us old farts have spent a lot of time fighting in the West in old Il-2...

Imagine intercepting a vast armada of three B-17's, protected by a mighty phalanx of two Mustangs.

I'd love to have a sim that convincingly portrayed the day or night bombing offensive against Germany, however I think it would require an entirely new game engine that planned to include realistic numbers of aircraft from the ground up. Presumably it would also need some kind of savegame feature, as very few would ever have the luxury of time to fly a typical round trip to Germany and back in one sitting.

Yes, I gave up on "The Mighty 8th" after a four hour or so mission when the game kept dropping out of Timeskip on the return leg due to all my wounded crew.

The RAF Bomber Command, USAAF 8th Air Force, RAF Coastal Command anti-sub patrols - hours of boredom peppered with minutes of sheer terror here and there. I'd rather play Luftwaffe's side, that was just minutes of sheer terror without hours of boredom...

In BoS? Not a chance.

I love flying bombers. But if I can't use a real bombsight like the Norden since 1C/777 only represents bombsights with an arcade interface instead... I don't think they should even bother. Heavy bombers should be done accurately, or not at all.

It will be  "The Small 8th". :)

There was NO campaign on Normandy, Ardennes, Berlin, etc. Everything was because of 'mods' developed by the community. It was nothing compared to the immersive campaigns seen on the Eastern Front and the Pacific that was the actual game.

I laughed out loud at this!

Seriously though, I know it would be a long time coming before we get that number of aircraft in the air. That being said, I did find some of the '46 campaigns quite immersive, despite the limited number of planes. With mods, '46 has crafted a fairly immersive experience (BoS still delivers a much better feeling of flight though :salute: ). If this engine sticks around long enough, I could see similar campaigns and aircraft numbers to '46 being a possibility years down the road.
