3instein Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 We got some snow with the winter maps, so I am wondering if we will get rain with the summer maps? Failing that any idea what kind of weather effects will be modelled with the summer maps? Storms, thunder lightning, overcast-rain, rain effects on windshield? Mick.
Finkeren Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Water effects on the windshield would be nice, but will be far more demanding to make than in RoF, where it's just an overlay on the entire screen. Here it'll have to be integrated into the cockpit model. As for summer weather, I hope to see altocumulus and cumulonimbus clouds (really any kind of clouds at altitudes above 2000m would be a nice change. I also hope some of the clouds will look a bit more 'solid' and less fuzzy than they do now. Personally I don't care about thunder and lightning. It always annoyed me in the original IL2 when you were forced to fly in weather that was completely unsuitable. 3
150GCT_Veltro Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 (edited) This one. I think it would be possibile with BoS Engine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbTLrebBKho Edited May 12, 2015 by 150GCT_Veltro 1
Finkeren Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Yes, the water effects are definately posible to do, even with proper refraction. I just said, that it would be harder to make than it is in RoF. BTW: While having the opportunity for heavy rain and thunderstorms is nice, it really shouldn't be overused. In WW2 you'd never fly combat missions in that kind of weather.
150GCT_Veltro Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Agree about thunder ecc. ecc. but rain is needed.
6./ZG26_Emil Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 In WW2 you'd never fly combat missions in that kind of weather. Exactly and it will hardly get used by anyone
Finkeren Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Exactly and it will hardly get used by anyone Unfortunately, I'm not sure about that. For one thing we'd propably have to fly in such weather on some campaign missions, but I also remember from IL-2 1946 that some servers ran missions in thunderstorms 'cause, you know, shitz and giggles.
Y-29.Silky Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 In WW2 you'd never fly combat missions in that kind of weather. It could just be a section of the map? It was a problem for all the bombers in the West, take off in England, thunderstorm all of a sudden engulfs the target. Of course you're flying over, but obviously you won't see the target. Anyways, flying over a thunderstorm (especially at night) is quite a scene, that'd be cool to see in this game. The problem is, the whether doesn't seem to change on the fly. 2
Finkeren Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Nope. They tried to model truly dynamic weather for ClOD. Just one of the many corners that project painted itself into.
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 If there is water and metal in the sim, they will have to model oxidation. Can't fly without it.
Guest deleted@30725 Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Dynamic weather including wind is an exciting idea. Predicted weather that has a chance to change based on time of day or set amount of time in mp servers where clear days with no wind can fly into thunderstorms and high winds or rain storms can spring up during a dogfight. I wish in the future there could be early morning frosts that go as the day wears on. Some day.

ShamrockOneFive Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Even if not a dynamic weather system... (and really I don't think it'd be a cool as I think we think it would be)... I'd love it if it were possible to have slightly variable weather conditions across the map. So it may be raining in one area but clearer skies in another. We already have variable wind layers and moving clouds so that'd be a great step to convey the visual aspects of this without upping the complexity to full on weather simulator.

Wouldn't be so hard if they transitioned to DX12 but we know that's not happening. Definitely not with their current development model. :/
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Of course, talking about summer weatther, the first thing we need is a realistic thermal lift model. Any glider pilot will agree on this for sure
Sunde Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Idk i dont think a 109 will do very well as a glider , the yak however, perhaps with flaps down? We will need to have a variometer unlock for this!
pencon Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 While we're at it let's have some tornados in the Sim ..
-TBC-AeroAce Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Also that weird upward striking lightning is a must, totally broken without this !!

-TBC-AeroAce Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Its a thing dude http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RDDfkKEa2ls
312_Tygr Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 While we're at it let's have some tornados in the Sim .. Tornadoes in Russia? Anyway, I don't think it wouldn't be much fun, the only reasonable reaction to seeing a tornado anywhere in the vicinity is to land in short order, tie the plane down or stick it in a hangar and take cover... I had my share of flying around storm clouds, (in the mountains no less) and let me tell you - if you don't have to, you simply don't...
