SR-F_Winger Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Hi folks, I for my part have been looking for replacements grips for my warthog since it came out. With no luck. So i decided to go ahead and try to make my own. i am about to buy myself a 3D printer wich i will then use to print the needed plasticparts for a custom grip. What i need is technical information and blueprints of historical fightersticks like the one used in a BF 109 and Focke Wulf 190. Information on any subtype is welcome. So if anyone knows any sources as of where to find such data and youl point me into the right direction i would greatly apprechiate. On the other hand i will need a defective warthog stickgip wich i can use to extract knobs, coolies and possible exlectronics needed to make the grip compatible and then to replicate them. For now this is just a hobby project. But who knows maybe i can come up with something thats practicable to produce in a possible small series. 1
DoWSiq6Six Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 There's a website you can get the switches and boards from. Can't remember the name but I've seen it. Was linked from some bodies cockpit build, I think in DCS forums.... It also had circuit board options with analog and rotary input options. I got he impression it was commonly known amongst those who build custom switch panels. Prices were surprisingly cheap too.. Then again when I clicked the link I assumed they'd be charging $50-60 to start. I believe I saw boards around 15-30 depending on options & number of inputs, and switches starting around a couple bucks. It's not free like a defective grip, but I imagine those will be rare so this may be a better option to consider.
Adebar Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 (edited) Winger, for the Fw 190, please consider this page: http://fw190.hobbyvista.com/controlstick.htm At least some detail images of the control sticks. I guess it will be hard to find blueprints for the stick alone. Did you hear from Sandy Air Corp.? They have a D-9 "Grün Herz" restoration. Perhaps they will share information with you. You can find them on YouTube also. Edited October 14, 2013 by Brummbar
SR-F_Winger Posted October 14, 2013 Author Posted October 14, 2013 Thats awesome Brumm. Great referencepictures. Ill look up on sandy air corp. @ Siq: thanks for the suggestion. I already have a custom board (Leo Bodnar) for some of my extra switches. But thats not whats actually needed to create a custom swapout stick for the Warthog.
Adebar Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Winger, - here is another page: http://germancontrolsticks.blogspot.de/ It has an own section for the KG 13B, the 190 "Steuerknüppel" (control stick). You can find it on the right menu. - Here you can find several control sticks, also the KG 13C, which seems to be used in the A8. Besides, there are plenty detailed images of control sticks, also for 109 models: http://www.cockpitinstrumente.de/instrumente/katalog/steuerknueppel/steuerknuppel.htm Keep us informed about your project!
Jochen Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 (edited) Servus Winger, I don't know if you've stumbled on this yet, but VO101MMaister's and Baur's KG13 project on SimHQ is a good starting point; http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3774820/Baur_s_KG13_Grip (several weblinks in this thread, among others to the original VO101MMaister's KG13 project thread). Also, please check VKB's upcoming Black Mamba flightstick (Su-27, compatible with Thrustmaster's grip), for which a KG13-like (Yak) flightstick exists. http://www.sukhoi.ru/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=170212&d=1378752746 (you may want to contact this forum's member Sokol1 for this). Here is a link to the thread on this forum; http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/1269-help-ordering-vkb-fat-king-cobra-mkii-joystick/?p=28780. Let me know your progress; I have pre-ordered the Black Mamba (also have the Thrustmaster Warthog) and may be in the market for a KG13 grip later. Schönen Gruß, Jochen Edited October 16, 2013 by Jochen
Sternjaeger Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 I have a rough cast of a KG13 that is a twin of MMaister's one, but I haven't managed to start working on it yet, I might not need it as I'm getting another solution, if so the cast might be up for sale.
Sokol1 Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 Put some links in your similar topic in SimHQ http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3849942/Re_Custom_Warthog_Stickgrip_in#Post3849942 Sokol1

SR-F_Winger Posted December 17, 2013 Author Posted December 17, 2013 UPDATE. Jusit ordered myself a finished fine piece of joystick art. Thus this project has become kind of obsolete. Thanks for all links and advice. I am very thankful!! http://www.i-jetpilot.de/joomla/index.php/shop-startseite/throttle-stick-rudder-2013-12-03-2013-12-03-2013-12-05-/kg20-detail

ll./JG77_JadeBandit Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Good God! From the sturdy looking construction, it might be the last stick you or your grandkids will ever have to buy. Keep us up to date on how you like the handling and controls with it.
III/JG11_Tiger Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Wow wsome nice stuff on that site, bit pricey for me but it doesnt hurt to dream, I would love that Helicopter setup. It would be great to hear how the stick performs.
