punderland Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 I unlock auto pilot, it crashes I tried pressing arrow keys after turning off auto-pilot, it does nothing. I tried use mouse, it moves the camera in cockpit but does nothing on 3rd person mode. I just want to play.......How do I turn my plane!
Finkeren Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 You use a joystick. It's not really 'required', but you'll have a real hard time without a stick. I'd recommend getting a Thrustmaster T. 16000. It's a very good, sturdy and precise stick that doesn't cost a fortune. 1

Silky, while brief, is correct. You really do need at a MINIMUM a joystick to properly enjoy BoS. If you are new to PC Flight simming a cheap one will suffice until you decide if you want to get more serious. As a point of reference, I have Track IR 5 (150US) w/ track clip pro (+40 US), Warthog Stick and Throttle (500US), Saitek Rudder pedals (150US), and a Logitech G35 Headset (80US). Only one of these things is actually necessary to fly the sim, and THAT doesn't have to be a $500 piece of kit. That can be $20 from your local yardsale. Any joystick will do. Additionally an understanding of basic aerodynamics and flight controls will help. Pull back, trees get smaller...Push forward, trees get bigger and so on...
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 have you tried fairys dust? -snip- Surprised that you didn't suggest that he fly with his eyes crossed, halfway closed and while sitting backwards in his chair. 3
Finkeren Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Well as we all know from HHGTTG: The secret to flying is to hurl yourself at the ground, and miss.
ACG_pezman Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 And if all the great suggestions above don't help, try this: 1) Go to settings → key binding → Main Controls 2) Look for three options called "Plane Control: Pitch"/"Roll"/"Yaw" 3) Look at what the controls are bound to or change them to whatever you want. If ya got any other questions please post them, well be glad to help.

ShamrockOneFive Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 I'm really glad new players are trying this out. New to the genre sometimes means a big learning curve up front but hopefully the OP and folks like him (or her) will spend the little extra effort to get into this. A cheaper $30-40 joystick is a good start. Some of us have spent considerably more but the entry level is a great place to start. It'll take a little time but before you know it you will be dodging clouds and blasting aircraft from the sky.
=EXPEND=Dendro Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 Buy a 2nd hand/new Logitech Extreme 3D pro Joystick.... they are very affordable and will really make all the difference... you won't be sorry.

I had this stick (have) for a while, it did the job just fine... until I really fell in love with these games and got serious and dropped way more money on peripherals than Im willing to admit.... but that will work for now, its good enough to have fun with
LAL_Luny Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 The Thrusmaster TFlight hotas X is also a good choice to begin with. Its quite cheap and has separate rudder and stick
SharpeXB Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 Even a console style gamepad is better than a keyboard just for starters.
-TBC-AeroAce Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 I started to play sims with an xbox controller and you can still be quite competitive. This controller is good because you can use the trigers for rudder, one stick for view and one for pitch and roll. U would really be surprised how good it can be
