No word for as far as I know, perhaps in a battle of Moscow aircraft pack?

Zak has very subtly alluded, that they are considering the Battle of Moscow as the next theatre. The Mig-3 will very much fit in there, but it doesn't really fit a Stalingrad scenario since almost all Migs had been pulled back for service with the PVO.

I hope this will not be the case, since it would be contrary to my own preferences and also preferences or large majority voting in poll about next theatre. Only about 25% of the voters wished to have early war scenario next, the rest hoping it would be mid or late war.

I voted for mid to late war, but I really would like to vote again on that matter after about six months of using the Stalingrad Russian rides. I actually can see the virtues of going with a map that includes early rides, like the Mig-3 and I-16. In fact, I ultimately want the early war rides in game, one way or the other way. I can also see the virtues of going with the P-39, Yak-9, and La-5FN. Whether I am pining after a Mig-3 or a La-5FN will probably depend on how challenging I find competing while using the LaGG-3, Yak-1, and La-5. If I think that with sound tactics I can hold my own, I may lean toward the Mig-3, but if I feel like the performance gap is significant and determining the outcome of my fights, then I am going to lean toward Russian/ lend lease planes with greater relative performance parity, such as the La-5FN or P-39.

I would like that for sure.

I beg to differ. Battle of Stalingrad must be considered (imo) as midwar (42-43). According to this poll  there are more people who prefer early war (approx 25%) to late war (approx 11%), so a move towards Battle of Moscow would be fitting im many aspect, including those who participated in the poll anyway.

Of course they could continue to another mid war area; the Crimean Offensive of 1943.. I guess that would go well with everyone... included of course some lend lease airplanes. I guess that would get the attention of a big US market....considering they don't end up with one of those tricky licens issues that we have seen with other sims and US airplanes.... Gr****n

I beg to differ... 75% don't want early war, and moscow is that, at least in my books. Large majority wants mid war (for me that is 42-43, maybe early 44). So Kuban or Kursk would be logical next step.

As for I-16, well, I guess there is about 50 other planes I would like to see before that... ;)

hrmm.. the poll does not say "do not want...".. it says: "for the next theatre.... I prefer...."... magic word: prefer

If you choose to interpret the poll like that, you just as well might say 90% don't want late war...which isn't true.

semantics... anyway, my intention was not to say that 75% would never want early war, but my interpretation is, that for next theatre 75% do want something other than early war.

I think..... nah.. I'll let it rest   ;)

back to topic... love the mig

Shea,

So, what do you like about the Mig-3? What are her selling points? Personally, I can't wait for a Mig-15bis, but I think I am going to have to wait a heck of a lot longer than you, Shea.

I don't know where you get the idea, that the MiG-3 "controls very well". AFAIK it was notoriusly difficult to handle, especially early on, before it had slats installed.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see the MiG in BoS (in a proper scenario like Moscow), and I would expect it to be quite capable it its own right (something a bit like the Pfalz D.XII in RoF) but I wouldn't expect it to handle particularly well compared to it's adversaries.

I dont think he meant  handle well as in being  a good tight turner.

Handlign good means easy to  control in normal situations. Fw190  was also described as handlign well.. but snappy at high G.

The Mig3s were really, really good in Il2. They were woefully underestimated by pretty much everybody.

Il2 isn't much of a gauge for how a plane flies in reality.

Thank you for sharing your interest in the Mig-3 and trying to explain it to me, Shea.  :good: I don't know what to make of the Mig-3. I am going to work with my squad mates to develop highly effective LaGG-3  Section tactics, at least experiment with seeing if there is such a thing as highly effective LaGG-3 Section tactics. :) I suspect that making the LaGG-3 shine is going to take a lot of flawless tactics and teamwork. How will the Mig-3 stack up, when compared to the LaGG-3 Series 29 or when compared to the rivals of the Mig-3? The team does not intend to balance machines, rather to present the machines with the greatest possible attention to historical performance. The Mig-3 could be a dog or a misunderstood masterpiece.

:salute: MJ

P.S. The Mig-3  sure does look utterly beautiful and, if you ask me, so does the LaGG-3.  ;)

I certainly don't mean "handling well" as being a good turn fighter either.

All I've read about the MiG-3 (granted, I've never read a book specifically about the MiG, I might well be wrong) describes it as being difficult to handle, especially at slow speeds. Apparently many VVS pilots had much difficulty transitioning from the I-16, which also had nasty stall characteristics.

The installation of slats improved the situation somewhat, but never enough to save the MiG-3 from being talen off the production lines, and it's intended engines being used in IL-2s.

What better way than to listen and see how she handles!.. From BoS developer diary#5:

<<<<don't forget to enable subtitles ;) >>>>>>

"Today we publish the second part of the video interview, which focuses on the MiG-3. For me this movie has provided quite a lot of new information and some moments I was frankly surprised. As it turned out, the reality presents many surprises. Look and you'll see what I mean."

We would like to make MiG-3 sometime in the future, but now we can't promise neither MiG-3 for BoS nor Battle of Moscow with this plane.

I don't think I'd want a Battle of Moscow scenario simply because after flying Winter Stalingrad for a while I'd be in the mood for some nice green fields rather than Snow and more snow...

You know you want one.

It is one of several possibilities that will be considered. And it's not a secret that the range of team's interests is much wider than pale winter landscapes and Soviet-German confrontation.

I think you will have great success and IL2 BOS will evolve into a multi theatre combat flight sim dynasty. The 1CGS team is a solid team. :salute: MJ
