BoS release in 2014? Then they MUST include lots of legacy CoD and BoM coding, imho...

Considering that the engine is not going to be the CoD engine you are probably right.. but I was under the impression that the 3D models were different.. that there was a lot more flexibility in usig various 3D models in different code because they were designed differently. The WoP modles are pretty good too.. so are the WT ones.

They may well be, I have no idea. Flexibility is fine, provided an engine can deal with a variety of 3dmodel types, face/poly count/skinning and lighting routines etc. When I worked with this stuff a bit years ago, standardising models from different programs was always a headache, and gettign them to behave predictably even worse..

But yes, it seems a shame not to use very good existing assets...wherever they came from. If the BoS engine can deal with different assets, more power to it.

Best not go to far off-topic into RoF-land, ElAurens.  ;)

OOPS.    I do get carried away when the discussion turns to float planes and flying boats,  in many ways they are my favorite types of aircraft.

The Zeke on floats is the A6M2N "Rufe".

If the series ever does eventually get to the Asia/Pacific theatre, then flying boats and float equipped aircraft will be very important.

Ah, yes, Rufe. The one in '46 was fun, wasn't it? And yes, any Pacific theatre scenario needs water-birds.

(incidentally, solely for the benefit of those who care, and ignoring my own earlier advice, Loft has posted a couple of new WIP Felixstowe screenshots: complete with 'Cliffs of Somewhere Dover-Looking' in the background: http://riseofflight.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=346&t=34371  B) )

[OT] I might have to buy that, seeing as my squadmates are too tight to gift it to me, even after numerous hints [/OT]

No, it screams don't shoot me, I am on your side. Wouldn't want some Home Defense a/c shooting at me when returning from, or going out, on patrol thinking I am the Hun.

For BoS, there isn't much opportunity for floaty-stuff, but with any luck, we might see some in sequels. Walrus?  PBY?   Sunderland?  Heinkel's efforts of course, the Japanese Zero-on-floats (can't remember it's name), and one or two other Japanese designs too, just off the top of my head. I'd best not give my opinion of the G****** D***, either on the grounds of aesthetics (I may be in a minority, but I think it looks even uglier from the inside than it does outside), or because nobody likes G****** anyway, for reasons deep in the history of the original IL-2...

Just take it to the Free forum... and keep it civil..  Look guys the goal here is not to stifle discussion .. it is to stifle back and forth bickering between sim camps.. If these things can be discussed without name calling, insults and multiple pages of back and forth rancorous banter between 2-4 people .. you wont hear from me.. but when I start getting all these reports in my in box "He's insulting me again!" "Name calling!" and such.. I refuse to deal with it in any other way than locking the thread and issuing bans. I have no banned anyone yet.. I realize that this is a traumatic time for some.. and I am not being facetious .. I am just as passionate about my simming as anyone else.. Why do you think I am dealing with some of this stuff here..? I am trying to be patient and optimistic about the people I am dealing with.

Some of us have been around for a decade.. and as one person said in a PM today... a lot of this stuff stems from the fact that we are a somewhat closed community and  "the contempt its familiarity has brought on from years hanging about together". But h@ll that  doesn't mean that we have to keep going on that way.. I have gotten so many reports from both parties in a given dispute about the other.. and it's like being in a car with a bunch of kids on a road trilp.. "He's lookin at me!!" "Am not!!" "Are too!!""Am not!!" "Stoooop" :I'm telliinnnn!!" and before I reach around and just smack one of them or all of them..  I try to get them to behave ... The smart kids start reading a book or playing a game.. or take a nap or just start playing nice with each other..  the not so smart ones keep it up and get smacked. I'm not out to make this place anything but a place where simmers of all ages from all over the world can gather and discuss the things that they are passionate about and share their experiences in what I sincerely hope will be the "New Best" WWII combat flight sim on the market... because IL2 is very long in the tooth.. and while we have some contenders and pretenders out there ... the old king is IMHO still on his throne.
