historical USSR decorations

I just found a quite good view of the historical decorations for USSR

The argument for them, and fact they have been used multiple times in other sims, has merit. I think the Dev argument, however, was fairly reasonable against using them. (Not really fighting/earning them. Dis-service to those who actually put their lives on the line while earning them.)

 

50/50 as far as I am concerned. I would expect them to be available, eventually, in some sort of 3rd party campaign.

I actually don't think the devs' argument holds up, if for nothing else then because virtually every other WW2 flight sim has already done historical decorations (minus swastikas) so it's not like the devs taking a stand on this makes much difference.

 

The reason I don't want historical decorations is because I want to save that for a potential future career mode (whether that be by third party or the devs changing their minds)

MODS ON could be a solution... but one more debate.... that is not the purpose of this thread.... this is just for general information and culture... if integrated (by devs or third party)... the better... if not, I can still live without it

 

on a personal note... arguing that having a reproduction of an actual medal (furthermore a virtual one) can offense the people who got the actual ones is not relevant to me..

Being in relation with some historical groupments and veterant association and having exchanged with some of the WW2 veterants, they are pretty happy to see young (or less young) people being interested in what they did during WW2... through films, books, documentaries or video games and so on...

 

And wouldn't care less about what kind of reward/decoration model you may get or even what costume you wear on "mardi gras"...facts, reality and what is historically accurate is way more important for them.

 

They are much more offended by the true threat of forgetting what leads to world war 2 (ie: increase of the nationalist sentiment in europe and around / deep economic crises, blinded,unlistend or ineffective policticians.....)

So to me there are absolutly NO reason to "censor" decoration or any historical aspect that is a witness of the past and of the reality.... (It just has to be provided with some educational note to explain people what it is all about... (this is also good for swastika debate to me...)

 

just think about how trying to hide/censore something has the tendancy to immediatly increase all the mysticism around it.....

I'm not saying it's a great argument from a player's perspective. It is the intent of the Dev's opinion, not of those who fight or play. I am saying I respect the sentiment regardless of whether we think it is valid. It is an honorable notion on their part.

Rise of Flight has a great selection of very nicely researched and rendered awards. It's a quite beautiful part of the sim and adds a lot to its appeal. Im sure when a third party career mode is created for BoS we will get the same thing.

Perhaps the dev's should give most of their proceeds they make from the game to ex servicemen, you know, to honour their bravery and courage, anything less would be a dis-service as we are not really flying the planes they flew, or taking the same risks, we are just gaming...

 

See how this cracked logic can play out... you can apply it to any part of any war game you like.

They should take the planes out of the game then, we're not really flying them.

I would consider the chance that they consulted with veterans and some were negative about the idea. In their place, if that really is the case, I would also follow the veterans' will.

When someone in the community creates a set of awards and rank insignia there might be a chance that we will see them in a scripted campaign mode. Some weeks ago Han mentioned the possibility for such a mode, given that community members create the necessary content.

Pure speculation mate.... the last IL2 had historic awards, RoF had historic awards, no one batted an eyelid then. Were the veterans not as important at that time?
