Do you like tires in BoS?

Just a detail, but details are important when they're part of such a well developed product, where the devs care about almost any aspect of the world they created.

Tires, don't you think they are too flat, somehow gummy - plastic looking?

I would love to feel more the tread, dunno, maybe a bit more bump mapping?

Can't explain better, but it's like a feeling about the whole lower gear/tires area, something that does not make justice to the game.

Thoughts?

I never tire looking at them. Wheel just have to move on.  Sorry.

Tires in the 30's were not that spectacular to look at..

Aren't they closed up behind doors inside the aircraft most of the time anyway?

Man, this discussion is really on the skids.

This old complaint again? It is getting so tired. But this is a helpful community so someone will respond with a helpful comment. Wheel cover it.

Apparently the dev team needs to reinvent the wheel.

See: This is why people who speak proper English spell it 'tyre' and not 'tire'.

'Fixened' is the correct term. [Middle English, c. 14th cen.]

Apart from the humour, (satire?) I have to say I agree with the OP,

Under certain lighting conditions the tyres do take on a very 'unpainted grey plastic kit' look, seems that the G2 is the worst culprit but that also has some wheel 3D issues (left over from placeholder textures maybe?)

Overall I think the recent contrast changes have improved things a little, however binging its own issues (another subject tho)

At the end of the day it IS a very minor gripe and down the scale of 'urgent fixes' by a loong way.....that being said in certain screen shots it can be a glaring feature that would be nice to see improved

Cheers Dakpilot

So, you're not all that pumped about them?

I agree we should have a standard tires quality for all the aircrafts, and now this standard quality is missed, F4 for ex, and there's not a way to have the F4 tires fixed in their 3D shape.

Details, ok, but an important detail considering how it's now. We are talking about 3D, so we don't ask for resources from FM coders ecc. ecc..

This tread is going in circles...

I agree, jg5. It leaves me wheelie flat.

On that note. Could we we have the tires deflate if they are shot?

Kidding aside: Yeah I could see the tyres look a little more 'rubbery' (and I'd just love if they would leave skidmarks on the runway in a hard touchdown)

Thing is: It's a really minor point in a sim that has a thousands ways it can go in its evolution and propably a hundred things that needs improvement.

Not sure, modelling new tyres for the planes will be the best allocation of the limited resources.

...and that's really where the rubber meets the road.  :P

Yeah maybe one of the devs could "spare" a moment to take a look at it.

Not gonna happen. They said they were tireless in their efforts to make the sim better.

Yeah. It's a case of I'm alright Jack

Don't feel bad. We just had a bit of silly fun with the thread nothing malicious

I'm sure we'd all like to have even better and more accurately modelled tyres on our planes.

Maybe, if we keep this thread going for long enough (and make a catchy song in support of the cause) we can can catch the devs attention and force a change:

Great idea, they could 'pop' on hard landings. Feels like I'm the only one trying to get some hot air in here.

This is going to be a Goodyear for puns. The best year bar none.

Sorry, I wasn't left with much else to play with.

I am a airplanes model builder at all scales and often in aircraft models I do replace then with resin wheels because they are not fine detailed or exact enough.

But in Battle of Stalingrad the game I find the wheels very correct in form and sculptures.

Maybe when very heavily charged planes the wheels should be a little flattened? but is this of a lot of importance because in flight???
