CAN_Yeager Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 (edited) OK, so I just bought this game and set my controls. I have flown a couple hours now and playing mostly the campaign. It's really boring fly 10-20 min (even accelerated) shot down a plane or two and RTB. Is there a more action packed way to play? I see the TWB server has some players but i'm not sure what's expected of me or how continuous servers work. I have quite a few years in Sims and most recently I was playing Sim on War Thunder. I feel comfortable flying the plane but I have not messed with engine management on computer games much. I have however in real life. But I have no idea what prop RPMs and specs I need to set or can I just leave it on Auto. I am only interested in non icon modes. o7 Edited April 30, 2015 by CAN_Yeager
AbortedMan Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Hop on the TWB server and join us in teamspeak! We're always willing to help new players and get the most out of the experience with teamwork (hhow aerial combat is supposed to be played!) Teamspeak server address: ts3.thewetbandits.org 1
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 (edited) More packed would be the QMB or online. TWB is one of the best servers but there are a few good ones. If you are just looking for the furball then icons is probably a better place to start. The more realistic way to fly is with a partner or a foursome. This is largely ignored on the Normal servers. It's all action junkies and lone wolves in there. Engine management is not terribly complex and Chuck's guides are a good place to start - https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/20586543/Chuck%20Il-2%20Battle%20of%20Stalingrad%20Guide.pdf Also look for Requiem's video's here - https://www.youtube.com/user/RequiemBoS And use the New Players Start here (I think there are more than one of these threads BTW) - http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/9521-new-players-start-here/?hl=+players%20+start%20+here Your prop and RPM settings depend on which side you fly (Germans are largely automatic/Russians are a mixed bag) and which aircraft. Comes Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 (edited) There are also a lot of interesting missions in the Mission Sharing Corner: http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/forum/92-mission-making-and-mission-editor/ There are a lot that are much more exciting than the campaign. Be sure to check out Veterans Missions: http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/13912-veteranenmissions/ Edited April 30, 2015 by Comes
6./ZG26_Emil Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Juri's missions are also really good and if you want more stuff to shoot at I recommend you give his a go :D

I think its meant to be merciful for new players. But when your level rises missions get better as there is more action and AI is more skilled. Actually IMO at later levels there are some quite entertaining missions. What it lacks at the moment is career mode, hopefully it is coming at some point. For now I imitate career mode by picking plane and usually flying 5 missions per chapter with it. If I die campaign is over, if wounded I skip next 2 missions and so on. As mentioned here before user made single player content are awesome, like Juri and Veteran66 campaigns. Plus several single missions, they are great. 1
NachtJaeger110 Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 but i'm not sure what's expected of me or how continuous servers work. Absolutely nothing is expected of you, in either normal or expert servers. When I am in the mood I just hop in, fly a few sorties to wherever I want and sometimes join other guys, escort a bomber or a pack of fighters. Personally, I fly for the quietness and enjoyment of the scenery, so most of the times without talking on teamspeak or even chatting. Nobody ever wanted me to do anything. The crowd there is very nice and helpful, so don't hesitate to ask them anything. So just do what you like and how you like it on multiplayer oh, one thing: If you could help balancing the teams, that would be great!
