josephine Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 I have hard time discerning what the radio transmissions say. In the old IL-2 I had no such problems (and I even learned some russian from that :-) but in BOS everything is so garbled I can't pick up the words. Anyone else with this issue? 1
Finkeren Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 Apart from the fact, that the radio chatter in BoS is very limited, I find it to be a more realistic representation of the quality of transmission in WW2 wireless gear.

You dont understand russian/german or you dont understand what they are actually saying? What Fink said, for soviet built radios, you were lucky to get out of it at least smtg distantly resambling human voice

What Fink said, for soviet built radios, you were lucky to get out of it at least smtg distantly resambling human voice I don't understand what they are actually saying (the sound). (In the old il2 it was easy to hear: Vnimanie, bombarderovschiki, visota, nul, adin, nul.) I wanted to play without any subtitles, but the volume of the radio is rather low and sunken into the sound of the engine, I simply can not discern individual words. Is there any sound setting that would increase the radio volume?
Trident_109 Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 I personally can't stand the voices. Is there any way to shut them off? 1

SharpeXB Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 (edited) My German has improved playing all these games Enemy aircraft! = feindlichen Flugzeuge! Bail out = steige aus Tally Ho! = Horrido! Viktor (Verstehen) = Understand There's certainly a lot of aviation jargon though that doesn't translate directly For example bombers are called "moving vans" The Desastersoft campaigns have a great German - English Luftwaffe jargon dictionary. Sokol1 Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 (edited) I personally can't stand the voices. Is there any way to shut them off? Go to ....\IL-2 Battle of Stalingrad\data\Audio\radio\ folder and rename the folders ger and ru, in this way: _ger _ru Or if want turn off only some individual messages go to these folder and do the same (add the _) for the desired ones. But the big "MP3 screen style" background messages bother me more than voices... The workaround - as sometimes is need know what the AI are talking - is use the "PTR" (Press To Read) when they talk briefly press the "HUD" on button.... Edited April 29, 2015 by Sokol1 1
Veteran66 Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 i like the radio call, ok the BoS radio call have to much reiteration like "1 Shoot down 4 calls" but radio calls in ww2 simulations is a big + in my VeteranenMissions i add more like 100 radio calls for the player commands or only for the ww2 feeling This time i work for my next Missions and it will have many new german radio calls, i hope you like it
Sokol1 Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 In il-2'46 I use to make all Nations talk only plain English, so can turn off subtitles and don't miss the messages.

Kudos, Veteran, your 'actors'! Hopefully, as the series progresses more and more details, like a greater variety of voices, will be added.
Feathered_IV Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 A really good default radio system is crucial for singleplayer immersion. It is every bit as important as comms are to MP players. CloD messed that up with only one robotic voice for everything. BoS is only slightly better at the moment, with some terrible scripting of in flight chatter. "Hello, attacking fighter, it's close!" Repeated over and over and over and overandoveandover...

6./ZG26_Custard Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 (edited) World War Two Radio Chatter- Lancaster Crew Sounds like a mix of Brits and Aussies. Edited April 30, 2015 by OriginalCustard 1 1
Finkeren Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 (edited) Is that authentic? That's an awesome bit of audio! It always amazes me when I hear/watch war recordings of people in combat, who are in mortal danger yet appear completely calm and collected, even cheerful. Edited April 30, 2015 by Finkeren 1

It always amazes me when I hear/watch war recordings of people in combat, who are in mortal danger yet appear completely calm and collected, even cheerful. It is, it was recorded by the BBC British journalist Wynford Vaughan-Thomas who flew with the crew of a Lancaster on a raid. The raid was recorded and the recording still exists in BBC archives. Here is a link to a few more. http://www.stelzriede.com/ms/html/sub/mshwlnak.htm Edited April 30, 2015 by OriginalCustard 1
