pilotpierre Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 Love the new map but I am finding great difficulty in locating the airstrips - they blend into the surrounding snow both in the air and while landing and taking off (while still on the strip). Is it just me or are others having the same problem?
6./ZG26_Emil Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 I can see them when I know where I am my problem is getting lost at the moment :D This map really maps me feel like I am in the depths of the Russian wilderness far from home.

BlackHellHound1 Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 It might help to change your ground resolution. This will make ground features (such as, roads, railways, airfields, cities, etc.) much more clear. This will also make the game look a lot better. Make sure to read all the important posts so you know what you are doing. The following link will send you to the first post. (how to do it)(only first post is important)http://forum.il2stur...tly-g/?p=194292This link will bring you to all the testing results. BlackHellHound1 Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 First you should read all the important posts in the Topic! As I mentioned multiple times: I use setting 2. This will give you the best possible quality without loosing any performance. However, make sure to test the settings! If problems occur: reduce the settings a bit and test again until all problems disappear. BlackHellHound1
6./ZG26_Emil Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 I already did and already implemented my settings but there are so many on there it's hard to be sure which one you mean. I assume your setting 2 from the original test?
BlackHellHound1 Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 I do indeed mean setting 2 from my first post! BlackHellHound1
1CGS zeus-- Posted April 25, 2015 1CGS Posted April 25, 2015 Love the new map but I am finding great difficulty in locating the airstrips I'll try to resolve this task in next patch. Here fullsize jpg of Velikie Luki map (19.5Mb). 3
No601_Swallow Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 (edited) Here fullsize jpg of Velikie Luki map (19.5Mb). Really nice map! I don't have the latest patch yet but looking at the map, most of the fictional airstrips on the mini-Luki map are gone (I was fond of Novosokolniki! ), and several others are - I think - on frozen lakes! For navigation practice I'd probably put in an NDB at an airstrip (with the ME) until I'm used to it, just in case, and take a Yak (with the NDB-gauge unlock/mod) on a tour. That way, I'd always know which way to turn to find it! Edited April 25, 2015 by No601_Swallow
[TWB]otavio Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 I'll try to resolve this task in next patch. Here fullsize jpg of Velikie Luki map (19.5Mb). You could try and convince the rest of your team in giving us control over draw distances... that would solve those problems.
pilotpierre Posted April 26, 2015 Author Posted April 26, 2015 (edited) +1 Do you have the same problem on Stalingrad with th new version Pierre ?, for me it got back as it was with version 1.09 Just checked, yes. Blackhellhound, tried that. Zeus, thanks. Edited April 26, 2015 by pilotpierre
Bando Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 For the Stalingrad map: The devs made the visibility of the strips poorer in 1.09 (I believe) and corrected that in 1.10. The strips on the Velikie map are poorly visible on my rig, and the strips on the Stalingrad map are better to spot. I hope Zeus can make those strips a bit darker (except for the frozen lakes, they should be white all around). On a side note: Landing on the frozen lakes has it's own set of difficulty: I cannot determine where to make the flare, as I cannot see the ground as good as on land strips. I'm guessing the alt I'm on and that ended a few times in a rather mixed up mess. Love the new map nonetheless
6./ZG26_Emil Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Just checked, yes. Blackhellhound, tried that. Zeus, thanks. It's worth changing your gamma down to 0.7 or 0.6 as well, that makes the map look 100% better and features show up really nice. You locate the startup.cfg file in the data folder open it and change gamma to 0.6 or 0.7 then save it. Then don't go in to your graphics settings in game after than or it will revert back. Try it and I think you'll be impressed. Also sweetFx is worth using.

6./ZG26_Emil Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 By the way regarding the icefields is it intentional that aircraft sink in to the ground after a while? We landed last night and parked off the side of the runway (I was down first). I then heard a crunching sound and I started sinking, I thought I'd put my landing gear up by accident but then I flipped over and sank in to the ground! It then happened to my wingman a few minutes later.

Brano Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 First thing to do when going to fly over new area is to study thoroughly the map.Mark most significant landmarks (cities, rivers, forests, railways) and make basic orientation flights across the map as real pilots used to do.If you do it properly, there is no problem to find your way home with even miserable visibility. Love the work Zeus and friends put into this map.I hope their railway enbankments will make their way also to Stalingrad map upgrade sometime in future
Bando Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 This is a fantastic map for low flying. The trees especially are so well done with their different colours. I really love this map. Hope the runways that are on the hard are made to be visible a tad better. Great work. 1
