After more than 1000 posts and 1000 "Cheers Dakpilot " I think it was only right and proper to show a bit of appreciation and say

Cheers Dakpilot!

Here's to 1000 more  :salute:

I known Dakpilot years back on several sites, I frequently now meet him in two, here and at ATAG . Wherever and whenever he post it is worth reading. He is a true asset for this genre. I am very happy there are other people noticing it. Cheers Dakpilot, this genre would not be the same without you

Here's a nice picture I took over Somalia, look carefully and you can see I was checking a nasty oil leak on number four engine, not a Dak but its big brother ;)

Yep, amongst a lot of other stuff, I was very lucky and privileged to have spent a lot of time in the  last of the commercially used 'round engine heavies' and able to actually live out my childhood fantasy's ;) it really was an end of an era

So, exactly what sort of plane is in that photo?

It's a DC-4 :) if you ever get a chance, pick up Fate is the Hunter by Ernest K. Gann, one of the 'great' aviation books (IMHO)

Cheers Dakpilot (;)), I'll make a reminder about that book.
