I thought I smelled a stench. This thread has been dead for nearly 6 years.

I'd like to go the other way, I think I'm all tied up in Steam but I really want the normandy release, is there anyway to flee steam and go standalone?

could I still play with people playing the steam version if I did?

Lol, a new thread may have been better yeah. But it's only your first post, so nevermind, and welcome!?

The additional content works as unlocks rather than separate downloads, so you can play Battle of Normandy (BoN) very well with Steam. Just link your account to your Steam account, buy BoN at the official store and you'll see it automatically turn up once you start IL2 in Steam. I bought BoBP, TC, FCII and BoN on the official store and use Steam to play, and I can assure you all of them show up perfectly fine :)

However, if you prefer not to have Steam at all for whatever reason and just play IL2 standalone, that's possible too. On il2sturmovik.com, login, go to Profile (top right of the screen), then on the right click Download and you'll find a download for the standalone installer. Although I'm not quite sure the Steam account link works two ways, so I'm not sure Battle of Stalingrad shows up in the standalone game.

Oh, and just to be sure, you know BoN is in alpha, right? That means that there's only a little bit of content yet (three planes I think, that's all so far. No map or career or anything).
