zodiac Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 A few years ago, I've discovered a gem amongst my grandparents garden furniture... My eye fell on what looked like a scratched out German eagle on the underside of the armrest of a deck chair. I asked my grandmother and it was indeed a relic from world war two. During the war she lived next to the airfield of Moorsele, Belgium. When the Germans retreated, the chair got left behind and survived the rest of the war with the family of my grandmother. After the war it kept fulfilling it's job as a relaxing cradle of security up to this day. However, after some 20-30 years of extended service the original textile got worn-out and it was refurbished. I never saw that original fabric so now I am wondering what the original colour (and/or pattern) of those Luftwaffe chairs looked like. If it ever needs refurbishment again I can try to restore it in the original condition. These iconic chairs are on a lot of photographs with Luftwaffe pilots. If anyone can find some of these, feel free to share them. Maybe they can prove helpful. Color photo's would be even more of use, but those will be really rare or from other surviving chairs. Any other information about this kind of Luftwaffe equipment (like what the letters on the mark stand for) is also welcome, as I'm no Luftwaffe furniture expert. Thanks! 2
Finkeren Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 No luck finding a color photo on the first attempt, but here's a picture of that kind of chair furnished not with cloth but with wooden lamellar on leather straps:
Feathered_IV Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Awesome find. Great photo too. Thankfully Helmut Jr stayed in the bunker...
