Guest deleted@50488 Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 and add that BoM badge to my account :-) In the last month I have been primarily using DCS World, and it's ww2 birds. Yesterday after a long time away from BoS, I loaded it again, and also installed the new version of RoF. Well... I keep feeling that there is something more "close to real" in the feel of aircraft I use in BoS as opposed to their closer counterparts in DCS. I can't really, still can't after all this time..., what it is, but it's related to various aspects of the flight dynamics, the graphics and overall ambience, the damage models, ... I noticed that the latest update to BoS ( which I didn't try when it was released ) brought better handling to the Fw190 and the F4 and G2, and apparently also the Yak-1 ( ? ). I don't know for sure what changed, but various aspects of these aircraft behavior feel better to me now, including stability, accelerated stalls, etc... All of it concurs to force me to spend yet another "huge" amount ( given I just spent a lot in the Spring sales for DCS ) in the upcoming BoM... but I would like to ask some question... Will the upcoming Summer map for BoS be a DLC, or will it make part of a free update ?
Finkeren Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Summer and autumn versions of all maps will come free of charge, though obviously you'd have to own BoM to be able to fly on the Moscow one Do take the plunge, you're gonna have loads of fun with a far more varied plane set than in BoS.
102nd-YU-shtele Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 (edited) You must activate the key you purchased. Then badge will be shown. Edited April 18, 2015 by 102nd-YU-shtele
ShamrockOneFive Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Ok, now BOM shows, but BOS is activated but doesn't show up ? It's not supposed to do that. I completely agree what you said... there is just something about how well this flies. It has this feeling like you're there that the others don't. There's a great match up between the physics and the sounds and the visuals just tie everything together. It's why I went for BoM. Pretty excited to get ahold of the Bf110 and the MiG-3!

Pretty excited to get ahold of the Bf110 and the MiG-3! I agree with the both of you on this. It's hard to put your finger on it but the feeling of flight is very good and realistic. I first got to see how well they did it with when I downloaded ROF while waiting for the early access. I was so impressed I ended up buying most aircraft. The other WW2 sims out there have more of a feeling of 'flying on rails' in my opinion, you rarely need to use rudder and the planes are rock stable.
SYN_Mike77 Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 These sims (RoF and BoS) have spoiled me rotten. I can't stand to be in any other sim for more that a few minutes. This includes CloD and DCS. They feel like I'm sitting in my living room in front of a monitor. RoF and Bos have a much closer feel to being there to me. CloD should be my favorite, I love the Battle of Britain background and the British planes and the lack of snow etc. It even runs pretty decently on my rig! It just feels wrong to me. I have read that CloD can get more objects on the screen than BoS and that both CloD and DCS have more interactive cockpits than BoS, but none of that matters if basic flying feels fake. I too will be shortly ordering BoM.
9./JG27golani79 Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 I think DCS is offering the best flight models but lacks in immersion due to the modern map which will hopefully be resolved once the WWII theatre is coming. In my opinion BoS and CloD are offering more in regards of overall WWII immersion but are lacking in flight models. atm I´m spending most of my time flying in DCS. BoS and CloD I only play occasionally but I´m thinking about getting BoM too - not sure though if I preorder or if I´ll wait for a deal.
6./ZG26_Custard Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Just to add my two pennies worth, I just don't find that DCS is cutting it for dog fighting, the visual spotting distance is terrible (fine for a blip on a radar and launching BVR missiles) Plus the AI is beyond ridiculous. CLOD, a favourite of many folks. I think the aircraft are just too easy to fly and particularly land and you seem to be able to push the flight envelope just a bit too far. BOS , is it perfect nope, but I genuinely think that they have nailed it when it comes to the sensation of flight that none of the other seem to be able to match. (even DCS). 1
6./ZG26_Custard Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 BoS is really special, even if sometimes I am so critic about it Indeed

The Redtails fly in DCS now.. and it is nice don't get me wrong.. but sometimes I wonder.. if DCS were not a clickpit full blown study sim would people look at it differently.. I find that BoS, DCS and CoD all have their own feel to them and I think that they all have good FMs even though they are different but I like the fact that the world in BoS seems to be more immersive.. There is nothing like going on a straffing run and knowing I can fly through the trees to attack my target to take away some of the immersion for me at least.. I like the fact that in BoS you better get it right or you will be crater bait.. For me and simming it is not any one thing that needs to be a deal breaker or a game seller but the entire package and i think that overall even though there are things i don't like in all three of the sin I just mentioned I can enjoy them all for what they do but out of the three BoS gets it most right for what I like in a sim.. Heck I still fly IL2.. at least a few times a week.. 2
361fundahl Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 (edited) I flew DCS WWII a bit. I appreciate the full cockpit and startup procedure for learning. The flying and everything else definitely feels less alive than BOS. BOS I get that feeling that I'm slipping through really thin fluid, the same feeling I got when I briefly piloted a Grumman Tiger.
