Steam is great. 10MB/s+ downloads!!

Over 11 years using it - never had an issue.

Oh yeah, the 110 looks alright too!  :)

Cheers!

I'm pretty sure it was announced that all maps will become available in all seasons versions. It makes sense too. Once the textures, weather and water effects are in place, converting existing maps will be (relatively) straightforward (apart from modelling the undamaged Stalingrad)

Besides: The Lapino map is just a small cutout from the full Stalingrad map, so there really is practically no effort necessary involved in converting it.

Full transfer to Steam for current BoS owners is mandatory, specially considering the BoM fully going through Steam.

Also, DX11 upgrade for BoM is also a must. There should be no other way around. Selling BoM with a new game price (and not with a BoS expansion price) demands massive engine improvements. Otherwise it would look like just a quick moneygrab for selling a map and a few more planes..

DX12 upgrade should be particularly taken into consideration due to the massive performance gain on the same hardware caused by the removal of the GPU/CPUs bottlenecks.

Where was it said that Bom will only be available through Steam, I seem to have missed this piece of info?

Thats what I was thinking too.  I really miss the Mister Winky smiley from the Ubi forums.

Also we're currently working on a whole new feature that would allow everyone who purchased the game during Early access and Pre-order periods to transfer their licenses to Steam, if they want. So those who bought the game until October 22nd, 2014 will be able to transfer IL2BOS to Steam saving their game progress. We'll make an announcement when this option is publically available.

Yes!

I'll buy B of M as soon as I'm moved over to Steam.

User friendly easy environment with me mates and a dlc store and mod workshop ready to go, its like GoDaddY with out the legs.

BOM is obviously not available only through Steam. That is a rediculous and unsubtantiated claim. Numerous people have already purchased EA through the website. It will remain avaiIable through both conduits for the forseeable future. I couldn't care less about Steam but I'm glad players who do now have that avenue available to them.

As for DX upgrades, the Dev's have already addressed it and there are no significant advantages to DX 11 over what is in the game already. The cost for redoing the engine is prohibitive at the moment, although, I do hope to see DX 12 in two to three years, provided it has the performance being claimed on the tech sites, when this game is more complete and making them good money. Until then, it simply ain't happening.

"going fully through Steam" was for the BoM purchases in IL2 store being announced as fully transferrable to Steam (at a later date) right from the beginning. In no case a ridiculous or unsustainable claim, as per BoM's main page:

Steam users: Even if you have BOS activated on Steam now, you can pre-order BOM on our site today using your user account (registered email on our site) in which any BOS edition was previously activated. You can activate the key on our site and get access to BOM content during Early Access. Then when BOM is released on Steam you will have an opportunity to deactivate the key on our site and get a Steam key from us and activate it on the Steam page to add BOM in your Steam game-library. Then activate the key on our site and get access to the game without losing all your early game experience on your user account.

Regarding the DX9 vs DX11..

This is actually a really ridiculous claim. DX9.0c only supports shader model 3.0, while DX11 supports shader model 5.0. Not to mention the better AA and tesselation support. And you're saying the devs said there's no "significant advantage"?

Thanks Zak and Devs..... I still sometimes can't believe how realistic and beautiful the scenery is from my cockpit even though it is only snow all the time. The ability to fly so many different aircraft in such a realistic environment is also great. I have all the combat sims and I must say the experience of flying in BoS is the most realistic of them all even though the FMs are not spot on. I don't think any sim can claim to have the perfect FM so for me, the whole experience of taking off and flying around is certainly a pleasant experience.

Well done boys, keep up the great work and I hope this venture keeps delivering for many years to come. I have put my money where my mouth is and I will continue to support this great product.

The way you stated it in your original post implied BOM would only be available through Steam and users would be forced to use Steam for BOS as well. If that was not your intent, it was easily interpreted that way. That claim is patently false and misleading to the casual reader.

I'm not going to argue the merits of DX9 v DX11 with you as this is not the appropriate thread for that discussion and I am no DX expert. The DEVs, however, have stated on numerous occasions - upgrading the DX offers no significant GAMEPLAY advantages and will not be done in the short term. You may argue with them if you'd like. It's not my claim.

I fly DED with around 170-190 ping from the West Coast of the USA and framerates are flawless. This morning there were 38 online and no lag or drop in FPS. Are you sure it isn't your pipeline, settings or connection?
