whatnot Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 I've been an IL2 and eventually CLOD fan for as long as I've simmed and have probably less than an hour of ROF experience under my belt (WW1 is not my thing). But I've been impressed with the way ROF has progressed and matured, especially given the fact that WW1 flight sim niche a lot smaller than WW2. Maybe I would have preferred CLOD engine as it truly was a diamond in a rough, but the most important news here is that development of WW2 combat flight sims continues in excellent hands. But to the actual topic: As I now have until 2014 to wait, which good sources (books, web sites etc) you'd recommend to get more insight on the air war of Stalingrad. Overview would be great, but especially details like memoirs, diaries and after action reports from both sides would be of interest. Thanks in advance!
whatnot Posted December 13, 2012 Author Posted December 13, 2012 Found one reading through the forum from csThor: Black Cross - Red Star Vol 3 It was out of stock in amazon thought, but getting closer
SlipBall Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 I've been looking too, if I find a good one to read I'll let you know
FlatSpinMan Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 (edited) I haven't read this but have read others in a similar series (about Barbarossa in Bessarabia) and they are pure info, sometimes stultifying my do, but if you want to find units, bases, day by day accounts, then it'd probably be a good place to start. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/1857802764 Myself, I'm keen on this one Fighters over Stalingrad http://www.fonthillmedia.com/shop/article_978-1-78155-046-5/Fighters Sorry, that should read 'stultifyingly so' but I can't edit on my phone. Ah? Apparently I can. Edited December 14, 2012 by FlatSpinMan

Ah? Apparently I can. Fighters over Stalingrad book summary says "The Soviet Air Force suffered appalling loses against Bf 109 and FW 190 fighters.". The appalling losses part I knew, but was FW 190 there too? I the butcher bird saw real frontline duty after Stalingrad. If it was part of Stalingrad air battle then I'll change my vote on the planes that I want to see! I guess hopes for Kindle versions on books like these are far fetched.
whatnot Posted December 15, 2012 Author Posted December 15, 2012 That was my understanding too, kinda eats the credibility of the title to have mis-information already in the summary text.
