AvengerSeawolf Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 (edited) Many of people use a triple screen for a ultrawide gaming , there are even new ultrawide screens coming out. But there is also the super ultra big option to get this with a projector. Many people who build flying sim cockpits and game play environment use projectors to produce a super ultra wide screen. Is this the future as everything gets big and wide. Would you go for that ? Personally I would go for projector instead of screens ( although screens will give more vibrance) for quite few reasons, as the bezel around the screen does not give me that even optical environment I look for in something big. Then again is the cost in pixels and money. I can do the job with 2 projectors to cover at least 120 degrees and bulid the screen myself , that get 3 screens that will cost too much and yet won't give me this size if I want to. Besides it will be then also a pixel issue since one would need 3 graphic cards and a monster PC to get it going. Of course I do not have the space to build such a thing, and I will have to limit myself to just getting a big TV led monitor right now. SO wich way would you go if you would. Projection or Giand system with huge LED'\s for gaming . See below videos. And of cource a super giant screen of more than 6m wide. This costs ... and this even more insane system and resolution P.S. edit. Of course I forgot there is also Oculus rit has anyone tried it ? is it worthy ? Or it get's you tired and is mind blowing ? AvengerSeawolf Posted April 16, 2015 Author Posted April 16, 2015 A triple 4k that looks awesome. Yes indeed it has to, resolution is big. But for longer distances I suppose.
GOAT-ACEOFACES Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 I think the Oculus Rift types of HMD will make these large screens unnecessary.. Unless the issue of 'sea sickness' due to lag can not be overcome, than large screen option is the only way to go
TG-55Panthercules Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 I think the Oculus Rift types of HMD will make these large screens unnecessary.. Unless the issue of 'sea sickness' due to lag can not be overcome, than large screen option is the only way to go I've been running some things on my projector for a few years now (about 100" diagonal screen, limited by my available wall space and room layout). I definitely think that's the way to go versus setting up multiple monitors. Haven't tried it with BoS yet as I'm still having some issues with relocating my TIR equipment sufficiently that I haven't quite worked out, but the comment about sea sickness reminded me of the trouble my wife had when she tried to watch me playing Silent Hunter 3 on the projector - a few seconds of watching that Type VII plow through those rough North Atlantic waters on that big screen and she would turn green and bolt out of the room
I./JG68_Sperber Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 still waiting for the OR, and then let's see...yes.. bigger is cool
AvengerSeawolf Posted April 16, 2015 Author Posted April 16, 2015 I also think Oculous Rit will be a substitute for big screens to many, for gaming. I'll try it in a demo with first chance
johncage Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 (edited) nope, my regular monitor suits me just fine. if it ain't broke, don't fix it. i've tested oculus rift, neat gadget, but absolutely a non factor in my enjoyment of a game. see, my idea of a game that's worth playing makes it so the features that oculus and super wide/big monitors play to are null and void. tons of other things besides moving head seemlessly around a virtual space are 1000X more important in a game. AvengerSeawolf Posted April 18, 2015 Author Posted April 18, 2015 tons of other things besides moving head seemlessly around a virtual space are 1000X more important in a game. That means ?
johncage Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 i mean wide/big enveloping monitors/screens/eyepieces are just a gimmick and very unimportant to the enjoyment of a game. if it was such a necessary component, it wouldn't have taken this long for it to suddenly be developed for consumer use. as soon as oculus rift shows up and gains sizable online presence, everyone starts developing it including sony and microsoft? did they have access to oculus rift scientists? how do they know how to develop this brand new tech? so one quesiton that has to be asked of oneself: is this all a coincidence in technological advancement or is it more likely that the tech to develop it was always there, and only now does upper management smell money? and if that's the case, why is it so important now for everyone to buy and invest in this? simple, it's all just marketing. they want to make you buy a new product that you don't really need. bottom line.
AvengerSeawolf Posted April 18, 2015 Author Posted April 18, 2015 (edited) I t so one quesiton that has to be asked of oneself: is this all a coincidence in technological advancement or is it more likely that the tech to develop it was always there, and only now does upper management smell money I think is a combination of both. People start to ask for more ( building big screenwalls, looking for making immersive anvironment ect. and the companies develop more.. for me is a combination of both. It happens like that always. i.e. people startoto use motorcucles in on off anvironment, then companies develo on off.People start to modify moto cross or enduro bikes with street tires, then companies develop the supermoto people start to make videos of action with anthing , then companies develop these action cameras.. Point is of cource since there is a "movement" of people going through special mods then companies develop these to a wider audience, "profit" for the audience is the wide variety. If you ask me I just don;t dig it that much. I enjoy my new 32" monitor( I men led TV full HD used as a monitor)and that's all for the game at the moment. Edited April 18, 2015 by AvengerSeawolf
Dakpilot Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 I think the answer to this is simple, did 'you' as a user get more immersion/enjoyment out of a current game you used, when switching from your old 15" monitor to a more modern 24" plus size one..... using a larger screen gave me more enjoyment and immersion, for me this is an easily quantifiable result, enough to justify looking at even larger options, when VR becomes mainstream that may change..but until that time comes, and it is still a way off, it is all speculation Cheers Dakpilot
