Pruciak Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 (edited) In Peshka is there a possibility to rtb with one functioning engine when the other stopped due to combat damage? Edited April 13, 2015 by Pruciak
[BTEAM]_Shifty_ Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Definitely it is possible to return, landing I haven't managed yet. Really hard to make the turn before the landing Make sure to feather (0%) the propeller and close radiator on dead engine so it gives less drag. Add yaw and roll trimmer to keep plane as balanced as possible.
TP_Jacko Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 For damage aircraft approach I think you best try to line up to the runway from distance and avoid going around a circuit incase you find you have even more damage
Pruciak Posted April 13, 2015 Author Posted April 13, 2015 Thx for the quick reply, will need to try this once one of my engines dies
Dakpilot Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 it is recommended not to make turns in the direction of the dead engine Cheers Dakpilot 1
Shepherd Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 (edited) it is recommended not to make turns in the direction of the dead engine Cheers Dakpilot This is what you can call an "Old wives tale" There is no physical reason not to turn in the direction of your dead engine. But this mistake it's very common and I also believed it for years just because I heard so many people saying it. Anyway, I don't know what happens in BOS when you try it... Very interesting article also about this topic: http://www.avweb.com/news/pelican/182044-1.html KR Edited April 13, 2015 by Shepherd
Dakpilot Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Your article seems to be about fuel.... Not so sure it is an old wives tale by any means, when an engine fails the A/C will want to turn into the dead engine and unless corrected will end up in an unpleasant situation. because the aircraft always want to turn in that direction, if you then choose to turn that way it is very easy to 'drop into it' and have difficulty getting out of the turn, especially if manoeuvring low and slow for an approach, it is much safer and better to turn into the live engine because you will already have rudder and bank inputs in that direction making it much easier to maintain control. http://www.av8n.com/how/htm/multi.html Cheers Dakpilot
AvengerSeawolf Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 (edited) Forget the landing and just take some height enough to cover your escape with a parachute. Too risky to play your life head or tails in order to try land a battered aircraft. SO ditch the plane and live to fly another day, besides they are Russians they will build another for you, they have so many and plenty of these, they could actually put chickens and goats in them if they won't find pilots  ... Oooops . it's a game , isnt't it ? Edited April 14, 2015 by AvengerSeawolf
[BTEAM]_Shifty_ Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 As sarcastic as you're trying to be, what you describe is the German way, bailing out on first damage instead of trying to save the plane. In Soviet Russia the plane lands YOU!
