Pilot modelling in the BoS series now and in the future..

Pilot modelling in BoS

  1. 1. Would you like to see skinnable pilots in this series now or in the future?

  2. 2. In the absence of skinnable pilots would you like to see a variety of pilot model choices as in female pilots or pilots of color ?

I have mentioned this in several threads over the past few months.. so please bear with me. One of the things that endeared me to the IL2 series was the pilot modeling and the fact that I could put my own face in the cockpit and take a screenshot. Or when I bailed out people cycling through the vies could actually see my face in the chute. I always thought that this was a great feature but I also realize that IL2 was an entirely different animal and the pilot model itself was a much simpler one. The complexity of this endeavor was brought home to me in the DCS P-51. The model frame s very well pronounced and if you don't get the features on it exactly right it looks weird.. but I was able to get a decent looking pilot skin out of it till they nerfed it in one of the last patches.

I am curious to see how many think this would be a good feature to have and give the devs some tangible input into that interest by the community. Also if this is not doable at all .. even in the future how about the possibility of several pilot models to choose from including a woman and pilots of multiple ethnicities.

Thanks for looking and considering and thanks for voting.

A skinable pilot should be fairly straight forward to implement, if not at release at least later stage.

In DCS it is very convoluted. Hopefully if it is implemented in BoS it won't be as cumbersome.

If it could be done well, then why not! I never liked it in il2, as the faces always looked flat and unrealistic, but the tech has got better over the years so I suppose it would look better now.

Then again seeing a clown bail out of a plane you just shot down is a bit immersion killing...

I prefer the CloD approach, where you can choose the pilot model and what clothing your pilot wears.

Yeah but at least DCS had the foresight to consider the fact that not everyone who flies in DCS is of European descent.. even if it was directly related to the 332nd skin in the P-51. It seems like a small thing to someone to whom it would not apply but to a person of color.. or a female ... it is of course not a game changer by any means whatsoever but it is an immersion dampener. Being able to skin your own face on the pilot would be great.. and if they had a system whereby there were say 6 basic facial shapes (hypothetically.. even if it were only 3. it would be a good thing..)  to apply to a pilot with which you could then apply a photo of yourself.. or use the stock one .. it would be a good thing.. and while if this is not in the works at the moment I can certainly understand that the devs would have more important thin gs to work on eventually it wold be a good thing IMO..

I think this is a very good point. Especially considering the different ethnic groups that Russia or the then Soviet Union was and is made up from. I'm pretty ignorant to the Soviet AF in WWII but I would assume there weren't any restrictions on who flew for them?
