pilotpierre Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 First Light Geoffrey Wellum This is an excellent book and true story about an 18 year old battle of Britain and later Malta Spitfire pilot. It was written by the author in his later years from notes he kept at the time. Very humbly written and extremely immersive. Can be purchase from www.abebooks.com for $6 1
AvengerSeawolf Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 (edited) Also another interesting read. http://www.amazon.com/Flying-Greek-Immigrant-Fighter-Resistance/dp/1597970786/ Story described also in the below video from the 90 year old veteran pilot.(, if one has the time to listen to it.) It is interesting on how someone started from complete 0 and became a fighter pilot, so good to be an American citizen outside US border ( actually the first one)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlI8-SpknNU Edited April 3, 2015 by AvengerSeawolf
Feathered_IV Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 First Light is great. I've read it several times. If you have the great good fortune to find a copy, I wholeheartedly recommend Terror in the Starboard Seat. Dave McIntosh was a Mosquito navigator on night intruder ops. He makes no secret that he considers himself the most shameful coward. He is frightened all the time and wants niothing more than a quiet, uneventful life. He has the great misfortune to be partnered with the most aggressive, thrill seeking, lantern jawed, kill-em-all pilot in the entire RAF. Someone to whom a second run on a target is always a damned good idea. The frission between the two as they make nightly forays into occupied Europe is extremely well written and often hilarious.
6./ZG26_Custard Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 I'm sure many may have already enjoyed this book but its one of my favourites in the genre. 1
=362nd_FS=Hiromachi Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 I could really recommend the Eagles of the Southern Sky. Although book is expensive its just worth the money, it contains extremely detailed description of Tainan Kokutai and its opposition day by day, contains personal stories and multiple great drawings. Apart from stories it contains a detailed comparison of claims and actual losses, eventually presenting almost exact place when certain Tainan pilot lost his life. Its just a book in its own class. http://www.tainanbooks.com/
