GordonFreeman Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 I just had a fight against a 109 at 6000 meters and I was higly surprise of the YAK reaction against the 109... I stay stuck at 350 km/h and never achieve to turn more than the 109... Yet I read this about the yak-1 against 109 The Yak-1 was better than Bf 109E but inferior to Bf 109F [9] – its main opponent – in rate of climb at all altitudes. And although it could complete a circle at the same speed (20–21 seconds at 1,000 meters [10]) as a Bf 109, its lack of agility made dogfights difficult, demanding high levels of concentration. In comparison, a Bf 109, with its automatic flaps, had a lower stall speed and was more stable in sharp turns and vertical aerobatic figures.[7] A simulated combat between a Yak (with M-105PF engine) and a Bf 109F revealed that the Messerschmitt had only marginally superior manoeuvrability at 1,000 meters (3,300 ft), though the German fighter could gain substantial advantage over the Yak-1 within four or five nose-to-tail turns. At 3,000 meters (9,800 ft) the capabilities of the two fighters were nearly equal, combat essentially reduced to head-on attacks. At altitudes over 5,000 meters ( 16,400 ft) the Yak was more manoeuvrable. The engine’s nominal speed at low altitudes was increased to 2,550 rpm and the superiority of the Bf 109F at these altitudes was reduced.[8] So what's wrong with this ? Thank you.
JtD Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 This was a Bf109F2 with an engine problem, which had poor performance at high altitude. In game we have a Bf109F4, without an engine problem, and that one could in real life as well as in game fly circles around a Yak-1 at higher altitudes.
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Manouvrebility ≠ turn raduis. Manouvrebility covers all aspects of aerial movements in relation to airspeed, stick force and airplane mass (inertia).

Ture is that in BOS Yak-1/Lagg-3 unfortunately overperform at high alts ( F-4 a bit also but not as such degree like Yak-1). Also Yak-1 overperfom with full flaps down comparing to all other planes. 1

Because for me yak 1 is like a stone at high altitude... no speed no manoeuvrability.
GOAT-ACEOFACES Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Two different testers, two different results.. Who Knew! It is no surprise the dev implemented rule 18

6./ZG26_5tuka Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 (edited) To be fair footage or impressions of a dogfight are not sufficient proofs. They may alert you sth could possibly be wrong and therefore encourage you testing the aircrafts properly in a quick mission. Better perform some turn tests gathering tuirn times accoring to certain airspeeds at various altitudes under calm wind settings and compare them to your anecdotal data. It's also adviseable to gather some factory documents for real measured turn times for both aircraft. Asking a tester for footage is never goign to work because testing is not done in a way people see it. You can easily take half an hour for full testing one aircraft and I don't think anyone want o record and upload it for someone's satisfaction's sake (besides - as long as his gathered numbers are replicateable - it isn't nessecary).
