Co-Op or Squad V Squad missions: Testing the water

Hi all

Back in the old IL2 days we used to enjoy fighting against coordinated groups of skilled pilots (in Co-Op mode) and I'd like to test the water to see if there are other like minded squads who would like to do the same thing.

What we're thinking of doing is setting up our dedicated server with a password and making some relatively simple missions which aim to give both sides that squad combat feel where tactics and coordination are the main focus and the main aim is that both squads get up in the air and formed up so they can fly a full length mission without distractions. The benefits in my mind would be almost guaranteed squad v squad combat on every mission without the annoyance of a lone wolf flying in to the mix dragging every battle down to the deck or inexperienced people causing pile ups on the runways etc

It's early days but I think a mission would work like this, we'd organise on TS or Steam etc when to meet and the password for the server would then be given out. Both squads would join what is essentially a DF mission but with a few rules such as:

1. Both squads start the mission at the same time - no random take offs

2. Restarts could be agreed on if things go pair shaped on take off

3. Dead is dead, once shot down there is no respawn


Example Mission:  One side has to escort bombers safely to a target and back (or perform a fighter sweep ahead of those bombers) and the other side would be ordered to patrol the front line in the target area. In the event there are significantly more pilots on one side the bombers could be human piloted but the main idea is that the missions would be simple enough to be modified but immersive and focused on leading up to a decent sized battle.

If any Squads are interested in this please reply below and either PM me or get your CO to PM me with a few details about your squad like regular numbers/ preferred aircraft and any other preferences. I don't know how fast we can get something like this organised (depending on the complexity of the missions) but we're keen to get in to some good fights. Initially we'll probably keep it simple but if successful we could expand to inter-squad cooperation on both sides.

About us: JG5 has been around since the EAW days, we flew the original IL2 since it was released in 2001-2002. We were known for flying high and tactically in Co-Ops but are happy to fight out numbered or with any plane set. We renamed ourselves as 6./JG5 as we noticed some other people also using JG5 in their squad tags...it is only 6./JG5 who are the old JG5 guys from IL2 We currently have a roster of 6 regular pilots but we do have a couple of friendly squads we can fly with.

For us i'll talk about it with our COs. We usually fly LW with both fighters and bombers groups.
