No601_Swallow Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 (edited) Last night, one of our mission builders served up something a little bit extraordinary for my squadron's "Friday Fun" session. We played football. Actually, it was a bit more like Quidditch. He'd hoisted two large rings (the type of object in training missions that the cadet has to fly through practicing a circuit) up to 2000 meters, to serve as "goals". The object of the game was to fly through your opponents' ring while stopping them - by any means - from flying through your own. He'd rigged it so the game kept score and displayed it. It was pretty cool. Some of the gameplay mechanics didn't quite work (I think we'd probably need to divide the "pitch" into zones, like netball, perhaps, and add a sort of early warning message so defenders know when an attacker is approaching the goal (or else use object icons to help with identifying opponents) and we'd need to refine the way scoring and respawning work), but it was great fun. It reminds me of the "capture the flag" experiment in RoF that never quite took off, for us at least. Maybe a BoS version would generate more enthusiasm. Actually, now I write that, for my next project...! But there are a lot of possibilities, that people are now starting to explore, it seems to me. The mission makers' forum (in the "Pilots' Art" section!) is a fascinating place to visit, as people help each other to tease apart the tools that the game gives us, as well as a good place to visit for SP missions to try out - some of which are already great. If you haven't had a look over there, I'd heartily recommend it. Edited March 21, 2015 by No601_Swallow
TP_Jacko Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Yes it was a laugh the Friday fun missions are a part of Tangmere pilots events that makes it a great squad. This reminded me of the IL2 1946 Friday nights that were always a brill way to shake off the week and get set for the weekend. Looking forward to seeing more of thisa few tweaks and its bound to be a classic
Y-29.Silky Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 (edited) I've been thinking of a game mode... In my younger years of hockey we played this game where 1 person would be in the middle and everyone skated to the other side of the rink, whoever was tagged/checked, joined the middle, last one left won. So in BoS, everyone would start for an example, at Karpovka (without ammo!) and have to fly Gumrak without being shot down by the guy in the middle. If you're shot down, you join the middle, if you made it to Gumrak, you and the rest of the survivors of that wave fly to Karpovka, etc, etc, last aircraft that hasn't been shot down, wins. But still gets raped in the end unless he can dodge a whole team on his own. Edited March 27, 2015 by Silky 1
