Hey!

So I've been wondering whether or not I should in fact get myself TrackIR 5 with the Pro-Clip. I've recently spent $200 on the Saitek X55 Rhino, and I wouldn't want to spend another ~$180 on something I don't know if it is totally worth it.

Any of you out there that have TrackIR your self...tell me, is really truly worth the money?

It's a great bit of kit, but I think it is overpriced tbh.

You bet, no way would I fly without it!

Started with TIR3 a lot of years ago, now running TIR5 and loving it.

Thanks for the bit of feed back. Yeah it is a bit of overpriced in my opinion, however  I have never experienced using it. I'll probably pick up one for myself sometime in the near future.

I couldn't fly any flight sim without TrackIR.  I've been using them since the very early versions, and currently have the latest version.  They're invaluable IMHO.

Absolutely get a TiR or some other sort of head tracking. Second most important piece of flight Sim kit right after a decent joystick. Third, IMO would be pedals.

Its absolutely a must have for anyone willing to put time i to a flight sim. I dont ever want to fly without it again. Ive had them since the tir3. Once you get it, youll wonder why or how you went so long without it.

Absolute must have. Only reason I would skip is if you plan on getting into the VR game this winter.

Essential. Went into a deep depression when my TiR4 crashed and while waiting for replacement...

I made my own head tracking Device to see what its all about. The homemade head tracking worked pretty good so I took the plunge after using it for a few months. The track ir5 is definitely a good choice. I would reccomend it.

The price is absolutely ridiculous for what it is, but it is still worth it. You can build a freetrack/facetracknoIR system yourself for ~$20, but it is a lot of hassle and simply does not work as well. I don't regret upgrading from a ps3eye based freetrack setup to TR5.

Before investing into TrackIR you might want to consider rudderpedals. They also greatly improve immersion and are not in danger of being made obsolete by VR goggles.

If my TrackIR wasn't working, I would shelve this game. I refuse to play any flight sim game without it.

Using a TrackIR 4 at the moment - started with the original Track IR when it was released.

"L'essayer c'est l'adopter" as said in french. We say too : "le prix s'oublie, la qualité reste".

I began with TIR3 and Igo with TIR5 now.

Since i tried it, I couldn't fly anymore whithout it.

I wouldn´t fly without TrackIR anymore - bought mine before I got pedals.

I don't understand where anybody could make the claim that it's overpriced...

It is a patented piece of hardware with a robust and granular software application behind it that Natural Point conceptualized and executed in a mass production scale... Even all of the free tracking solutions out there depend on Natural Point's drivers/code in one way or another...

Sigh...

Couldn't fly without it.

Wish the track IR pro clip would be a bit stronger though, I'm on my third.

Yeah, mine is being held together (just) by wire.

One way to save a bit of money is to buy Trakir 4.  Then download and run the Trakir 5 software.  It's backward compatible to 4.  The only thing you loose is some lateral range.  But if you mainly do flight sims that doesn't matter.  For instance, when taxing to the runway I have no problem leaning out of the cockpit far enough to steer by.  With the cockpit closed their is no issue what so ever.

I think in some parts of the world it costs 3x what people in the US pay for one. If it cost that much I'd still buy it though. It's about as essential to flight simming as a joystick. It's the only way to have good easy situational awareness. Also it means your HOTAS buttons can be assigned to something other than the numerous view commands, making you even more effective and using the HOTAS in the way it is meant to be used. In modern more complex planes like the A-10 it's essential.

NP is a great company too regarding customer service. Mine burned out after a few years and they sent me a new one even though it was out of warranty.

No, totally overprice and built cheap, but if mine broke, I'd order a new one...immediately....

Will be so happy when the CV1 and/or HTC Vive are out, won't need it then...

Would not even bother flying without it now. Never thought I'd get so used to the darned thing. Worth every penny, just have to set up a curve to your liking that matches your cockpit (monitor). Love the X55 as well. Best to buy the cheapest Saitek pedals as well to get a great experience overall. Edited by roaming_gnome

Love the X55 as well.

I have it and love it too. Any ideas on the modes? I mean  do you use them and how have you combined them? I think to use one for bomber and another for flying in general with the fighter.

I still cannot figure out what this SLD does and how to use it in the programmer.

Any tips will be appreciated.

That's what I am thinking too.! Twisting the wrist doesn't cut it. So if I have the chance I would go for the pedals first.

Yeah it's a tough choice. I got the TrackIR first and then when I got pedals had to learn to fly all over again.

Absolutely. Some say it is overpriced.. but consider that i has no moving parts.. and once you buy it .. you have it. I have owned a TIR 1 which I actually sent back because it made me nauseous.. I took the plunge again with a TIR 3 and have not looked back. I gave my TIR 3 to a squaddie when I got a TIR 4 for the 6DoF (at the time IL2 did not even have 6DoF but CoD and DCS did so..) , then I broke my TIR 4 and got a TIR 5.. but I would not fly without it.

Also consider a set of rudder pedals. Well worth the investment IMO.
