No601_Swallow Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 I'm sorry if this has been asked before. I couldn't find an answer. Does anyone know if the missions from the game's "campaign" are stored (cached?) on our machines? There are a couple of things I'd love to look at (and steal) for my missions, like the searchlights lighting the runway for night-time approaches!
jeanba Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 (edited) Yes, there are called _gen..., under data/missions You have to rename the whole set and move it to a directory under data\missions Obviously, as other user missions, you can only play them "offline" Edited March 17, 2015 by jeanba 1
No601_Swallow Posted March 17, 2015 Author Posted March 17, 2015 Brilliant! But - D'oh! I was looking at the _gen mission I had yesterday, thinking it was quite complex - must be the work of Syn_Hashashin or Veteran or AM or...
6./ZG26_Emil Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 They can be edited to a MP mission from what I understand.

Jupp Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 ~S~ Swallow, Just use -IIRE- Coconut's trick : When you record gameplay in the game (Ctrl-R by default), the mission file is saved with the track. You can open it (the msnbin file) in the Mission Editor. The file selection window does not include *.msnbin in its filter, but you can still type in the name of the mission directly, and the editor will load it. ... This trick makes it possible to look at missions generated in the campaign. It also means you can replay campaign missions if you run into one you liked. And then using the Editor, you can make variations, including adapting to Multiplayer. Blue Skies, -Jupp-

This should be "stickied". Edited March 18, 2015 by No601_Swallow
TP_Jacko Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Doh, Think how many missions we could have in the back catalog by now if we could have used this at the start of the campaign
Jupp Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 ~S~ Everyone, After reviewing the advice, tips, and tricks of the trade I've learned in converting a Single mission to a Multiplayer one... I have not yet done the Campaign and yet, I do understand how this can be compiled for use as a Multiplayer host, in one hat. So, here's hoping that my piloting skills are up to snuff as I'm about to start on redoing the whole Campaign mission set for MP use. Blue Skies! -Jupp- 2
Hessle Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 I too am very interested in MP coop's, I have tried to no avail to get a campaign mission working in MP... Having tried the tricks learnt in ROF ME, I will have to give it another go.
VBF-12_Stele Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 (edited) I gave this a try by opening the cached mission, editing the spawn airfield for multiplayer use, resaving the mission as deathmatch; however the mission does not load when you try to join it online. I get a "File Transfer Error #10017." I'm able to join other user made missions fine, though. There is a lot going on in one of those campaign missions, and it looks like it would take awhile to troubleshoot. Did anyone come across this issue? Edited April 6, 2015 by VR_Stele
AbortedMan Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Make sure you resave the mission with a new filename, and keep the mission in that folder once you saved it. There are files that reference specific locations based on where it was saved. If these don't match, you get the error. Also, I think spaces in the filename may cause this as well.
VBF-12_Stele Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Thanks. I did all that, but still no luck. I'm going to try generating another mission from the campaign and try again; will let you know how it turns out.
No601_Swallow Posted April 7, 2015 Author Posted April 7, 2015 There are other things that need to be altered. The "type" of the mission has to change from ...[whatever] to "deathmatch". Also, many of the triggers/spawning/activating groups and objects use "check zone" or "proximity" triggers that may not (or will not) work in multiplayer. Testing must continue! 1
coconut Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Indeed, I wonder how people trying to reuse campaign files in a deathmatch setting are planning to transform every MCU that has the player's plane as an object (attack orders, proximity...). One possibility might to simply turn the player plane as AI, add a plane to the fakefield where the player originally started. Then it's up to him to follow the now fully AI-controlled wing and help it. All the "congratulation/mission failed" logic will be confusing, however. It will apply to the AI, not the players. I also wonder if these missions won't be too heavy on the net. If you open a campaign mission in the editor and try to validate it, you will get quite a few messages about exceeded limits. 1
limeymcscrote Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 (edited) Here is a simple batch file I made to make renaming the generated missions easier. Just edit the name the files will be copied to; in this example change "Camp6" to whatever name you want. ren _gen*.* Camp6*.* edit, I couldn't upload a batch file. Just create a text file in the Campaign folder with the .bat extension and copy the above example into it... Edited April 24, 2015 by limeymcscrote
TP_Jacko Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 (edited) I went back to this idea of looking at the campaign for interest in how the mission is built. I found today with the current game version the campaign file did not show up mission folder only the last single player mission. I also went and replayed the track and found it did not create a msbin file when it was played. Has something changed or am I looking in the wrong location. Or my guess is that the mission does not need to be saved as its generated from a library of some sort and only the results get recorded It seems to work as described for the the first campaign Edited November 14, 2015 by TP_Jacko
