The only way the press would be surprised by the great things you are doing is if they had been asleep before!

That Stuka pit looks fantastic, can't wait for the early access phase to start

'Incompetent manufacturing'?

Or perhaps a desperate struggle to churn out fighters to stop the lethal invasion forces rolling deep into the heartland of the USSR? When you are in a life-and-death struggle you can't wait a year for perfect plexiglass...

Incompetent may be the wrong word but there is no denying that the Soviets were technologically backward in many respects.

The design of both the Lagg-3 and Yak began in 1939, plenty of time to figure out how to produce clear resin. If you want to argue, the Russians were essentially designing " disposable "  fighters and did not particularly care about clarity or quality. This would be a plausible argument.

I actually think using a term like "technologically backwards" is kind of offensive. You wouldn't say the Americans were "technologically backwards", when they were making P-26 Peashooters while the Soviets were flying I-16s, would you?

Yes, yes I would. I-16 was the best fighter in the world in the early/mid 30's.

But you know, we were feeding our own population without billions of dollars in foreign aid or creating man-made famines, so different priorities.

EDIT: To clarify I have nothing but respect for the russian people, from the first of the Rus to the modern day, but the Soviet Union isnt really worth being offended over is it?

In addition to the above, the US was not preparing for war. They did everything possible to isolate themselves from the possibility. Including no appropriation for military build up and research. Russia had just made a deal with the devil, knowing full well it was to buy time to rearm for the inevitable war with Germany. The Spanish civil war exposed how painfully  inept and technologically backwards " their armed forces were. The VVs lost 4,000 aircraft on the ground and in the air the first week of the war with Germany.

If history offends you, don't read it.

I don't know how familiar you are with the history of Russia and Soviet Union. But as a whole it can be said that Soviet Union was still technologically backwards country in 1940's, they were making huge leaps to improve situation, but were not there yet. You can see that for example in how they were able to design some very good military gear, but were not able to keep the production standards high enough, especially during the early part of the war. Ofc this has to do with rapidly expanding the production and the fact that factories had to be moved away from the advancing Germans etc. But anyways, Soviet Union at that time was backward with some (expanding) islands of modernity.

The problem I have is with the use of the word "backwards". There is a huge semantic difference between being labeled "backwards" as opposed to simply being "behind" or "less developed".

We are after all, talking about the society, that launched humanity into space.

The same society who systematically murdered  thousands rather purged its officer corp. and others prior to and during the beginning of WW II, imprisoned aircraft designer Tupolov. The Russians were  an ally of Germany, agreeing to  invade Poland the same day Germany did. Stalin was too ignorant to understand he was the next target.  They were backwards in every sense of the word.

Why why why are topics here derailing so quickly sometimes.

It starts with commenting on developments of the sim, then a semantic confusion about the word 'backwards' and now I read about politics and mass murderers.

Just a few tips before commenting:

- Give your keyboard a 10 minutes break.

- Don't drink and participate on a webforum.

- Go for a walk with the dog or so.

Godwin's Law roars its ugly tail.

It is just a webforum about a game/flightsim you know.

I believe we are getting factory spec crates, so the yellowing of the VVS  isn't much of an issue anyway. With the attrition for VVS units at the front-line in the two first years I a not sure it was too much concern for the combat pilots either. From what I've read about IL2s, planes was worn out both by combat and the elements at a phenomenal rate, and I wouldn't be surprised if the same was true for fighter units too.

Lets keep this on topic and save the political commentary for another forum thanks..

Another great update! :)

As already said, the Ju87 pit looks like i want to live in one for the rest of my life, and the Yak is looking fantastic. I think it is the first time that we will have this particular version in a sim. Great!

I cannot wait to see pictures of the Yak pit.

Hey 1CGS team, keep on rocking :good:

Glad to know I may use on this forum unpleasant qualifications for nazi germany without offending anyone.

If you're intending to use things you know are unpleasant, then I'd say you are already acting offensively.

Well said. It could be called "Abandon Hope All Ye Who Enter Here". The rest of us could then enjoy the comments and discussions on the different aspects of this upcoming combat flight simulation.
