Good game to practice on

The biggest problem with a transition from WWI to WWII IMHO is that you need to relearn deflection shooting because in WWI there is little deflection to be made compared to WWII where there is a big difference. That's something to be kept in mind.

I agree :

I think IL2 friends have no problem for df. shooting skills

I'm using CloD at v4.0. Man, that 109E4/N is a real pig in a dive, all its bits come off.

Il2 1946, still flying this game on a regular basis... some fantastic user campaigns and content available, plus the latest version patched up to 4.12.2 is just superb, add one of the mods like HSFX 7 and you are really cooking.

The amount of aircraft to practice on is overwhelming :)

I really enjoy the AI in 4.12.1. It is a huge leap from 4.10. They are maybe a bit too accurate with their shooting, but it is good motivation to develop the essential habit of always checking 6.

Being mainly an offline player, I'm looking forward to seeing BoS AI :)

Absolutely .. regardless to what some may think '46 is still a decent piece of kit and well wort the time and $$.

Obviously not ROF since its WW1 and abilities and performances of most of the aicrafts its quite different then of those in BOS. If you want go with il-2 1946 or CLOD with modpack from team fusion.

Oh I disagree with that completely.. the fact that is is free is a big plus right off the bat and RoF to BoS would probably be the best choice as far as learning to use pedals and getting used to similar virtual physics etc..

I re-purchased IL2 1946 on Sunday night for $5.99. It comes patched to version 4.12.2. Steam has CoD for $19.99. I'm sure you could get it cheaper on Amazon and other locales but I'd just thought I'd throw out the IL2 1946 price.

:salute:

Having now flown BoS, I'd definately say, that RoF would be the best to practice on. The main differences are the slightly more complex controls, much better climb performance and less speed sensitive aircraft in BoS.

Other than that, BoS feels like an improved version of RoF with significantly more powerful planes.

Just recently purchased RoF and CloD off Steam with greatly reduced price. RoD is totally different thing, it's like fighting in a ultralight. Not my cup of tea although Red Baron was the first ever flight sim that I'd played.

After the early access experience, definitely War Thunder and DCS had helped me a lot to properly fly the 2 early access planes. Best of all the former is totally free and the latter is a true hi fidelity sim (much harder than BoS or CloD, pity just have 1 plane, and not proper war theater).

Recommend CloD with TF 4.0 mod.

Interested in getting CLoD, especially since everyone I've heard now says that it is excellent with the TF mods. However money is tight this time of year; looking to grab a copy for less than the 20 bucks that I see it advertised for. Anyone know where this is possible? Comments on Amazon say it is 12 bucks but I haven't found it for less than 20.

You had missed the recent autumm sale on Steam only $9.99. Maybe they will have another sale during Christmas.

You can find CloD DVD for very low price in some games stores nowadays (bought it for 12 Euros 2 month ago)

Then patched with TF4 greatly improved everything in this sim, but still a very poor SP part.

Then adding Desastersoft campaign (sold on the web) to TF4 again greatly improved SP experience.

Game is running beautifully with SweetFx addition, very fluently with tons of planes.

Excellent for practicing in the waiting of BOS full access...

I would play IL2 1946 but I now use 3 screens and a single screen just don't cut it any more.

I've seen lots of screenshots where other people are running IL-2 1946 with a setup like yours, so its certainly possible.

So have I.

Sans FoV changer is utility that some use to do it i believe.

The 4.12 patch gave the sim native support for wide-screen and multi monitor resolutions.

Ok thanks for info. I will seek for that update.

Clod is only good for online play, the offline SP element is pretty much pants.

IL2 1946 is an offwhiners dream with tonnes of campaigns written by big name producers like FlatSpinMan, Extreme_One, IceFire and PhilK to name just a few.
