johncage Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 haha the facade shatters. valve is really no better than any other company. they're just large enough to provide convenience, to an extent, that their competitors cannot. end of story.
taleks Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 Once I bought Rayman Origins from North American player (as a gift, you know the procedure) for full price in his region, because there was no that game at that time in Steam game collection for Russia. I guess, I can't do that trick anymore. Thus number of games to choose from is more limited for me now. When I started using Steam I was fascinated by "no regional restrictions", "pay once play anywhere". Bleh. I understand reasons behind this move and market segmentation strategy, but instead of getting 20$ now, they since last year have a chance not to get 10$ from me later, because I don't have much patience and will get some old classic game from GOG to occupy my weekend. I'm not sure that is very clever decision for publishing companies and Valve itself if they don't provide the same day release in all regions. But it seems they are pretty sure, that this move will produce more income. But if I move to another country, in other region, and can't use legally bought games... That is simply idiotic.

This is also probably under pressure from companies that utilize Steam as a vendor. Valve can't just tell them to sit on it as they're well within their rights to remove their products from Steam.
