II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 If you make these missions work I will be happy to fly a twin, Mosquito PR, in future iterations!
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 The Pe2 has brilliant vision with that glass floor, I can imagine it being perfect for recon in real life. It is nice to fly in my opinion too, once off the ground and not dogfighting either obviously! It also has a bomb sight which could function as a recon "camera" view. But while I perosnally would preferr to see the Pe-2 taking this role AMs reaosns in using the Lagg are reaonable. Option between both would be nice, like only limited recon Laggs and unlimited / way more Pe-2 recon planes.
jeanba Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 I think that there was a Pe-3 recon unit at Stalingrad
SOLIDKREATE Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Get rid of radar and add this....I'd like it. Unfortunately radar is spoiling the DF missions imho. THIS 1000000% I think aircraft should be spotted and only the recon pilot can see the enemy on their RADAR map. The RECON pilot then calls out grid and sub-grid. "Enemy fighters, 2 at grid three-four-eight mark seven, angels two-point-five". I believe the Bf-109F-5 was a RECCE bird was it not?
AbortedMan Posted March 10, 2015 Author Posted March 10, 2015 I've randomized the spawn locations of the tanks, so they can be pretty tricky to find at times...which to me makes the recon mission a bit more interesting and valuable. The map arrows are just a guideline and not meant to directly show their location. Thanks again for testing. Give it another go when you can. Perhaps on a longer stretch of game time you'll catch the automated reports from ground positions that give hints to armor movements.

Radar zones are forced by the game right now with no way to turn them off. I've moved the airfields away from the intended playspace to help reduce their effect. 1
Y-29.Silky Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 (edited) YES! I noticed in the campaign that the radar follows you, that's what I was going to try. But with my 8fps, recon is about the only thing I can do to be productive atm. Recon should be unarmed (no bombs) Peshkas and Stukas imo. This will force people to actually simulate a recon plane flying high, rather than flying like a banshee in a lagg at low alt. Edited March 10, 2015 by Silky
BraveSirRobin Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 rather than flying like a banshee in a lagg at low alt. I'm pretty sure this is the first time the words "banshee" and "Lagg" have ever been used in a sentence together.

Well,to be precise and according to how VVS did it in 41/42 you would have to fly low and with standard ammo load when performing recce in front line fighter. They did not have any cameras, they relied on visual contact and memory.
TheNotoriousFNG Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 I know if I were in a command position and was accocating aircraft fro a reconnaissance mission, I'd choose the Pe-2. Three sets of eyes are better than one. Added to that, you might be able to wring a bit more immersion out of things by altering the text message that occurs when a target is spotted, writing it in such a way that it sounds like the message comes from one of your crewmen. Even better if you can cause a custom speech sample to play too... I'd also suggest that the people lobbying for single engined aircraft only are part of the problem in MP. Certainly not part of the cure. I agree. I'd be up for flying as crewman in the recon plane...love to be on TS keeping a lookout as we scan the area for targets and interceptors! That's the same crowd that refuses to fly historical match ups because they're not "balanced". Yeah, being stuck in a LaGG-3 against a bunch of 109 experten can be frustrating, but it makes victories that much sweeter, IMO. If there was a way we could award points or something that would encourage more players to fly the "crap planes", I'd definitely suggest it. I'm not fond of stat tracking, as I believe it tends to attract "statwh*res", who care more about their stats than enjoying the damn game or playing the objectives. The only stat that I really care about is my time played. Score, victories and aircraft losses are interesting to see but it is of no importance to me if they're not tracked from session to session, mission to mission, etc. Aye, agreed...but that's a double edged sword. If the single engine guys don't get to do what they want, they just leave. Then we have an issue of sterile and lonely gameplay for those that like a little more interaction while doing objectives. As for the dialog when spotting units, I would like to personalize them to be specific to the recon mission, but until we get server logs and scripting working, all on screen notifications are forced to show up for the whole team. This would be a bit confusing for others that aren't participants in recon. More props to you for attempting this and sticking with it! Hopefully more options will arrive to allow more flexibility for you mission builders!
Feathered_IV Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 I don't think high altitude strategic photo reconnaissance would be possible within BoS. Low level tactical reconnaissance would be more appropriate. I'd read about pilots being instructed to fly low along highways and such to report any movements. This seems like the most typical recon work at that time in the east.
beepee Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 ^ Awesomwe! I am keen on recon missions. My online play has pretty much been jabo missions, or re-supply. I don't mind the odd dogfight, but I am much more entertained by objective oriented flights. Will try an jump on and try it out later,
Vex Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Zero interest in Air Quake, Need something else to do Jabo, Recon, I'd rather fly a boring 2 hour CAP and use navigation properly then just base to base death match. Anyone remember the ridiculous 2-3 hour + co-op missions flying over open ocean to dive bomb a carrier. Instruments only, then fly back and try and make it to your own flight deck. Fun times 1
AbortedMan Posted March 12, 2015 Author Posted March 12, 2015 My goal for the missions in the Eagle's Nest is to get away from air quake. From what many have told me I'm on the right track. Come check it out sometime. 1
-NW-ChiefRedCloud Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Look forward to trying this out. Thanks for your efforts. Chief
