heinkill Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Shoutout to Lupson for this one. I am currently writing some AARs (very loosely) based around missions flown by Yekaterina Budanova, and of course it isn't easy to do this with either stock campaign or quick mission engines. But with a combination of these, and missions I can set up very easily in Lupson's SMB, it all becomes possible! Here they are. The mission start and end are generally from the campaign engine, while the combat sequences have been set up in the SMB. YEKATERINA 'KATYA' BUDANOVA GOES TO WAR: PRELUDE http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/4077963/BoS_campaign_Ch._3_AAR_#1_Feb_#Post4077963 (Halfway down the page, the Budanova AARs start) Am saving them to turn them into a proper mission set for release when I am done. Cheers Lupson! H
SCG_Neun Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 I'm enjoying this SMB as well. It's incredible how much fun this has added for me and opened up my appreciation for this game. It's a real "game changer". I'm excited about the additional goodies that await us from talented guys like Lupson.
6./ZG26_Emil Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 If Lupson does something for co-ops I will have his babies....ok that's not really an incentive but he will be a freaking hero!
Freycinet Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Heinkill, good to see you making missions for BoS. You should post them in this forum as well, and not just on SimHQ, I'm sure a lot of people will otherwise miss you reports. (I only saw your big thread over there now...) - I used to be active on SimHQ until I was banned by an over-zealous Cliffs of Dover-hating mod...
ZaknafeinTV Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 (edited) as Emil said, if he do coop, and devs add this type of gameplay to the game, he will be my hero. Easy and powerful, why developers not do this before ? Edited March 7, 2015 by Zaknafein

Just waiting for Lupson to add a bit more functionality if he can - takeoffs and landings and spawn triggers, plus waypoint timings... It would be very nice to be able to quickly set a mission up in SmB and then polish it if needed in FMB. H Edited March 8, 2015 by heinkill

heinkill Posted March 12, 2015 Author Posted March 12, 2015 So, I'm putting together a mission set based on the exploits of Yekaterina Budanova. There is plenty of historical material about her exploits but a lot of it smacks of claims inflation, and there are many different versions of her kill count. Some indicate she outscored Litviak, others that she was a couple of kills behind, and then there is the Order of the Patriotic War citation which she received just after her death, which lists only two kills and one shared, and which you would assume would be the most accurate historical record of the time, no? One example is the confusion around her possible claim of a FW...in some accounts it was a shared kill of a FW190, in other accounts it was a solo kill of a FW Uhu recon plane (this is the account Budanova herself gave in a speech to some komsomol girls in 1943) but in her awards citations it is not even mentioned. There is no doubt these women were a huge propaganda asset so it is hard to sort the wheat from the chaff in what was written about them. I have seen reference to a collection of letters she wrote to her sister Olga which I am hoping will give more detail, but of course it must be in Russian and I can't find it anywhere on the internet. Anyone know more? I have searched the first few pages of Google links in both English and Russian so have exhausted those. I also have a couple of books on Litvyak which cover her relationship with Budanova in some detail. I like to get my missions as close to historical as possible with historical sources, as you can see! Cheers H
