Ouch! Did the guy revenge-kill you later on? :)

I think you both missed it, the La-7 I shot down fell onto another La-7 that was chasing me. Was Korean war event, US vs USSR.

I have some great memories of coops with Blairgowrie (the Ubizoo mod) He regularly would bomb/straf the crap out of friendly convoys and say "jeez they shouldnt be there" and we also flew a BoB mission and he landed on a German controlled airfield and kept saying "why am I being shot at?" :) Great times. Really miss him.

+1. Flew with him on the Saturday Ubizoo coops. Always a pleasure.

Speaking of which, It was one of the Ubizoo coops where my Mossie lost an engine in an 'incident' with a FW 200 - literally.  :o:

It was still flyable - and it looked like I was going to get back to base. Until I lowered the undercarriage...

Too much drag, and I clearly wasn't going to make it. A change of plan was called for.

I hoiked the gear back up, and belly-landed on the beach.

I fly co-ops in 1946 on daily basis, hosting a lot of them or joining games hosted by other HSFX junkies through HyperLobby.

Recently I flew a mission with few guys and few squadies. One of us is determined to fly bombers each time he has a chance to - this time we played defence against US air raid of B-17s so the choice for him was obvious - to take as many 163s out as possible.

Komet is a small fighter with powerful cannons but not a lot of ammo. I scored some kills and glided to the airfield, landed safely and waited inside the cockpit for the guys to land it or die ( no "end flight" key in 1946 - host has to stay in the cockipt or bail out thus cut his score in half ).

Suddenly our badly damaged squaddie in a hostile B-17 that looks like cheddar announces on ts "I'm gonna land this baby on your airfield". "Good luck with that" I said and looked at him put the bird down. Since his controls were badly damaged he crashed on touchdown, broke his B-17 in half and it's front half span around the airstrip for a while and stopped facing my landed Komet.

"Great landing" I said.

"My nose guns are still operational!" he yelled.

I watched the rest of the game from above of my exploded 163...

Bastard :D

Yesterday I was playing Cliffs of Dover (new patch is excellent). I had not flown for a while, so picked a Hurricane on the ATAG server with about 80 other players.

I took off and saw a speck patrolling over Dover. I gained some altitude, and wasn't sure where the action was so decided to try and form up on him. He seemed rather uneasy about my presence and just figured he was looking for other friends to link up with him. After a large bank I was able to get close enough to him to really think about forming up. A quick look around my cockpit (check temps, fuel and alt) he is no longer flying away from me, but straight at me with the sun in my eye. VROOOM, he roars past in a 109...  :o:

Being an unskilled pilot I more or less required new pants. But I decide to do my duty and go in pursuit of this aircraft, sharp bank and drop to gain some distance and speed, and spot him pitching down. Another aircraft is following the coast and they begin to engage. The friendly spit seems to have the upper hand, so I more or less just observe, didn't want to steal his kill after all :) . Two more spitfires appear out of no where, the 109 drops into the drink.

I look for the pair of spitfires, we are looping around in circles, seems we are all trying to follow each other . We break off and I try to follow the single spit (he did kinda save my bacon) and he continues to patrol the coast. In a blink of an eye he is gone, engaging another fighter. I go in to help / observer, and they start heading towards France and gain altitude. They are going quicker than I was, but I persist in catching up. Then the spitfire collides with the hostile aircraft, his wing comes off and he drops. The German was getting away. I clenched my butt, put on my serious face and pulled out the octane 100 fuel knob. I was determined to avenge my savoir :salute: .

Crunch, oil over my screen and grinding sounds, seems the German is going home after all .

I start to limp back to home and the engine conks out. Not knowing where the closest airfield is I decide the beach will have to do. Landing gear doesn't work, so I go to skid it on the sand, seems it was quick sand

I agree about 4.00 Fudge and I'm back into Cliffs of Dover also for the next 3 weeks to pass the time. This sim sure has come a long way since July 2011. The big problem I have with it is it's theater but that's a personal thing. You do the same thing over and over again. It wouldn't be too bad if ATAG did more Battle of France missions but they seem to concentrate on the channel.

+1. It works great now. It was really busy there yesterday. :)  I tried to join a couple of times and the server was full 100/100 players.

Had tons of fun after I managed to join.

I had a close one yesterday trying to take off. After taxying to the end of the runway in hurricane I'm waiting for this smoking hurri to land. His gear didn't open and he crashed landed. As he was glinding in. perfectly lined up with the runway, I see another plane drop in through the clouds behind him followed by a few flak explosions. Ok, this is not a good place to be, at the end of the runway, so I gun it to take off. I'm rolling from one end of the runway, from the other end is this poor hurt hurri gliding in and behind him this hungry 109 looking to get two easy kills in one pass. He shoots at the guy on the runway and now is coming for me. I didn't have enough speed for a normal take off, so I drop flaps to lift my nose up just enough to line him up.

Sure enough it worked. he missed me and I filled his motor of bullets. he turned around wide, and I managed to hit him again in the second pass.

Now, it's not insulting enough to shoot a guy that lands and a guy that takes off, he now tries to land on the same runway he tried to vulch us...so I just returned the joke and hosed his plane on the runway, as soon as it came to a complete stop, killing him dead.

Getting on the server can be difficult at times, but it's been worth it.

Yesterday again,  I managed to get on just as a new mission was starting. Picked a Hurricane at littlestone, at least a dozen - 18 people picked spitfires there. I followed the guy to my left on to the runway and lost sight of him. I ram my feet into the floor but I still kept going  :o: , I roll to a stop just in time then remember toe brakes are non existent in my plane . Thank fully I stopped before taking my propeller out.

To my right I see a spitfire try to cut the orderly queue, clearly not an English chap (okay he may have been and on TS with me  ;) ), another one takes off by the side of the runway, leaving a trail of dust behind him. Hear and explosion and see two burning spitfires on the runway...

My turn to take off on the obstetrical course comes, I line up, advance the throttle slowly, dodge the wrecked spitfires and the craters they've created, and get in the air. I raise the undercarriage and call out to my friends on TS I'll gain some altitude and wait for them. They never made it up in the spits  :(

Why they finally get into the air I've been patrolling for quite a while. The Germans seemed more interested in hitting Manston, East Church and other air fields. The odd aircraft tried to hit Littlestone, but it was mostly quite. This may be in fact due to the amount of craters and smoke left by the Spitfires tring to take off earlier. Finally the action starts to pick up, my friends report multiple contacts coming in over the Sea. "4, 7, 10, lots of them!" , and my engine stops . I frantically look around for the problem, no Germans on my tail, reasonable engine temps. My fuel gauge has been at 1/3 for ever. I move the cursor over it... nothing, it's a static indicator for the oxygen level . I eventually spot the fuel gauge and it's below empty, just as the action was about to begin

I turn on the reserve and land it at the airfield, just as it was getting bombed. Flipped up and off the runway I'm left bleeding in my cockpit  :cray:...

You know it's funny I was one of the very lucky ones who really had no problems with the game..such as it was in the beginning. Folks were having crashes all the time but nothing with me what so ever. Even the raw install without a single patch seemed to work ok. One thing is everyone who has this mid range MSI GTX 560 card seems to have great luck with it. Now it's probably worth 50 bucks but it still works great. I have 12 gigs of ram and an asus P6T deluxe version one board. I did about a month research before I did the build and it really seemed to pay off. This was over two years ago and I'm sure it will be fine for BOS because I get 60 fps on max settings with COD and it never goes below 35. This is after the first new sound patch with lots of aeroplanes in a coop on the steppe map. Good frames and no real problems.

I've never had performance issues either except few slowdowns here and there with the clouds and smoke. I've had issues since I upgraded the monitor. 2560x1440 is hard on any computer.

Actually like the first release a lot better than what it looks now. The lighting was amazing and the colors were well calibrated. I still have an old install that I play offline regularly.  Online though the new patch runs really well for a lot of people and 100 players online, in one server,  is hard to beat.

I can tell you all a funny story about the Russian front and meloncholia. I'm sure anyone who is interested in WWII history has heard of the German soldier talking about suffering from extreme meloncholia while progressing across the Russian front. One was saying he was waiting for a hill to apear but it was miles and miles of flat ground..like Saskachewan  LOL. Anyway once knews had come out of the Ace expansion pack was coming out for Forgotten Battles I remembered that German soldier. I found myself suffering the same meloncholia hoping to god to get out of Russia soon hehehe. Mind you I was in Russia for ..how long was it three years? I was still going at it non stop though.:)
