Okay you got me. They may be boring compared to others. First It was really nice to meat the first group of good friends. Pope who later became Graf, Willie Herr-Spray, Uhoh7, Joshua, Freitag, Stigler, SR-Aces these are all of the demo days guys and probably some people in here know them. Wierd Things that have happened. First thing I can remember was on the Crimea map, it was cloudy and I was flying on a heading straight to the Russian base. I was in a thick cloud when all of a sudden a Yak zoomed by so close he almost hit me. I thought that was really cool that we could almost hit each other in a thick cloud at full speed and not see each other until the last moment. Both at the same alt. too. Pope use to yell and curse at me so much that I decided to plug in the VCR to the back of the PC, I still have the tape of him saying..I'm gettn the F away from you. This is in Forgotten Battles now. A guy blew apart a Spitfire about 500 meters above me. I watched as a big chuck of it was falling down and I thought no way is that going to hit me. It did. I think this happened the same night also. A Spitfire was chasing a 109, both were coming right at me. As the 109 was going over me it blew up. The Spitfire went over my head a fraction of a second later and I pulled back on the stick to go after him. Someone else killed him but it all was very exciting :o: I'll probably think of other things as we go along.

One night when I was flying a pacific mission with my squadron on the two islands map in IL-2 1946 we had the most hilarious landing accident happen:

The mission was over and we all landed at the base, but the first guy down botched his touchdown in the crosswind and flipped his plane. The plane lay on the side of the runway about 1/3 the way from the end. Since the base on that map has two runways we other 3 guys landed on the other runway. While the last of us touched down a npc A-20 bomber landed on the runway with the crashed plane and tore his wingtip off on the wreck. The npc crew bailed out of the moving plane and got run over by their own bomber. The pilotless bomber then proceeded to drive in a left turn towards the other runway where the last plane of our squadron was on final approach. The empty bomber, still driving at considerable speed, managed to hit our landing squadmate dead center as if it was aiming for him about 200m after his wheels touched the ground. And to set this pilot death into perspective: At the time we where flying a DCG campaign in coop and had it set to reset all stats on death. This one landing mistake cost us 2 fighters for our squadron, 1 bomber and one of the players had to start a new character.

I also had a very funny thing happen to be in Warthunder once (I know it's not a sim, but still a nice situation):

I was on the Ruhr map in a FW-190A flying around at about 4000m while looking for targets. I found a P-47 slightly below me, but before I could engage a Spitfire IX dove on me from above. I dove away towards friendly lines and in the direction where the other players in my team where. The Spitfire and P-47 followed me so I dove to the ground to put them under my team so my friends would have an easy time diving on them. It also seemed like a good way to put a bit of separation between me and the two enemies. Suddenly I saw an enemy P-38 in front of me, coming form the direction of my base and coming directly at me for a headon attack. I dodge his headon burst and as his bullets go past me I hear an explosion behind me. The P-38 had shot down the Spitfire. A moment later the P-38 passes just two meters above me and about 2 seconds after that I hear another explosion as the P-38 crashes into the P-47 that was still on my tail. I pull up and look around, all three of my enemies are dead and I didn't even pull the trigger once.

In a German career in IL2FB i once intercepted a flight of Pe-2s escorted by a pair of Yak-7s. I left the bombers to my AI squad mates and climbed to tangle with the Yaks. I was able to pull up and get off a quick burst at one of them, right as they passed overhead. The lucky hit took his wing off, and he started a fast spin down - right into the leading Pe-2! The crash set off the bombers heavy payload, which blew three of the four Pe-2, as well as the unfortunate Yak to kingdom come. The last Pe-2 was riddled with holes and quickly dealt with by my squad mates, while I took care of the remaining Yak.

I was only awarded one victory (the second Yak) but still I felt it was something of an achievement to down four aircraft with a single 20mm round.

I flew a Sturmo loaded with FAB250 I think, spotted He-111 and thought I'd try to hit him with bomb mid air.

Got him at first try as i had loads of energy over him (overtook him quickly) and released the bomb just over the big bomber.

Bomb was on 10sec delay.

As to my amazement bomber seemed to soak up bomb with no damage then exploded 10sec later.

IRL bomb would probably tore apart some of his parts and probably shot him down that way.

Nowadays I think that's almost impossible in IL-2 since bombs are not instantly armed.

PS. somewhere I have a track of this too

My fav kill ever in any flight sim ive played...

IL2 1946, im flying a P39, almost back at base after flying a online a co-op, all alone at about 2000m thinking it had been a bit of a boring mission, i'd not fired at anything and was thinking about the next mission, completely off my guard.

Base in sight and im just thinking about my landing, when out of nowhere im bounced...BANG! BANG! BANG!...holes apear in my left wing, i crapped myself, almost jumped out my seat, tried a snap roll to try and get away from the tracers and promptly stalled like a noob, though thinking about it, that probably saved my arse, i quickly get out the stall while trying to see just what had bounced me, there he is! a 109F4...oh crap...i see him climbing away above me tipping his wing to keep me in sight, this guy is no mug.

i level off trying to gain a bit of speed while he decides when to attack again, i check my P39, holes in the left wing, one pretty big, holes all over the canopy and a fuel leak, not good. i look up to see him roll over and start his attack, i turn into him trying, to get under him then a quick reverse to try and spoil his lead shot, as i try the reverse, i stall again!, bloody left wing damage is making hard turns a no no...just as i get out the stall tracers flash past...BANG!...just one hit i think, maybe on my tail...yep...rudder gone, i see him climb back up, prob laughing his head off at me...enjoying toying with me like a cat with a mouse.

Here he comes again! this time i cant turn hard, i try again to turn into him, but i can only turn slowly so i wait until i think hes about to fire and i jam the stick forward and chop the throttle...tracers again but no hits...phew! this time when i look for him he has not climbed as much, more a yo yo, he knows im crippled so hes not being as careful as before, he sreams in again from my 10 oclock, again i dodge but this time i cant avoid his fire...BANG! BANG!...dark gray smoke starts from my engine, this is bad, only a matter of time now, again he hasnt climbed, he must be pissed off im not dead yet,  he starts a left level turn, i might have a chance here!! i start dragging my crippled aircraft round towards him, but im turning so slow!!

My nose creeps round as i watch him coming straight at me, time slows down, my sight moves inch by inch towards his rapidly growing 109, his gun ports flashing and blue tracers reach out to me...were head on now...were going to smash into each other! i close my eyes as i press the trigger, my p39 jumps as the big cannon in the nose blasts away as i wait for the crash....

....I open my eyes...im still flying!...what? why iam not dead?

I look around, nothing!...i look back over my shoulder, and there is the 109 spinning down missing a wing! one of the big cannon shells must of taken off a wing at the root! YES! LOL i watch as his plane falls to the ground and explodes right next to my base, my base! its right there! the fight must of taken us over our base, my engine starts to cough as i turn towards the runway...flaps...gear...just as im touching down in rather a messy landing, the chat box opens and i see...

This Rise of Flight one is more career / immersion story than single in-flight event, but it's always cool when randomly generated career missions amd AI assigments write a coherent story that ties into historical background.

I was flying as leader of Jasta 6, part of JG1 (still) led by Manfred von Richthofen, an ace so popular that Germans believed  Brits founded a special anti-Richthoffen squadron just to kill him. JG1 just moved into Cappy airfield, idyllic landscape, good clear weather and my J6 was to stay there for just two days before transferring north, so I decided to fly as many extra unscheaduled partols as I could.  After packing out, our first orders were to make dawn raid on British airfield at Lealvillers, to introduce ourselves to our new neighbours. Rather than go down strafing the field mixing with enemy planes, I decide to leave the wingmen up and circle above the airfield, challenging English to come up. True to the form, the Englishmen climb only to be attacked from above and downed. Not bad first mission in new place.

Few hours later I go for my first unscheduled lone patrol only to find five S.E.5s circling over our aerodrome. The English decided to answer our challenge with one of their own ! Only, the AI is bad at flying S.E.5 and I downed them or chased them away leaking fuel. Then, when I go at evening patrol, I see another five S.E.5s circling our aerodrome. The Brits must have been fans of Dawn Patrol movie, or just took serious grudge for the morning raid and decided to send the No.84 Squadron again and again after me, despite their constant loses! By end of the day, I have ten No.84 Se.5s down or driven away in addition to our dawn raid. Poor devils, I can only imagine the gloom at their own aerodrome.

The next morning, we go on a balloon busting mission and meet about 20 planes, all of them German. It looks like the British gave up flying over the front. On noon lone patrol, I see single R.E.8 recon observing our aerodrome from altitude, otherwise it's all peace and quiet. Did they give up, or are they up to something?  On the evening, I go for lone patrol only to be met by now familiar five S.E.5 circling overhead. So, they have anti-Trupobaw squadron now, probably sending in new replacements? After climbing to their altitude I quickly down one of them, then unusually accurate gunfire rips off left aileron of my Dr.I. I turn after attacker, who is turning with me, better than any S.E.5 should be able to...

... there was a Sopwith Camel, plane that RoF AI is much more competent with,  hiding among the novice S.E.5s ! And Ace AI level judging by way he flies and accuracy! The whole thing was a trap, the S.E.5s were only a bait, I have not seen a single Camel since transferring to Cappy and now this! How devious! Fortunately, our duel eneded in a draw (we both crash landed on German side of the front). Next day, my squadron was transferred north post-haste. Richthofen stayed with bulk of JG1, and less than week later we learned he died in action there. Probably should have warned him...

Learning to fly in ROF.

Trying to establish basic controls, pressing B to remove breaks to take off... removes the whole plane instead.

Finally get a friend to give it a go and gun for me. Communicating over skype. Flying I think the RE8 or Bristol. About to take off I hear "What happens if I shoot the tail" I sternly reply with "Don't even think about it". Take off is going rather awkwardly and turn my head around to see parts of the tail, including rudder is missing.

Later that same mission taking off again, runway is not smooth, get in the air and notice the right wing struts are broken. Decide to blame him when the wing fell off  ;)

Another time I am flying the lovely F2A in a coop with the same person. For a good 15 mins all I hear "It's a B**** Bazooka", "How do I fire it?". After some guesstermated instructions I hear Bang "KwaHAHA, this is a Bazooka!" Look down to see a splash in the water  . We end up flying over a hostile airfield and we are doing strafing runs, then notice something taking off. We miss it on the taxi, miss it on the runway, then, as it gains air I hear a Bang "Woo! I got it" and see parts of a wing fly above our plane  :o:

Later on we were engaged with a fighter, who damaged the engine and the wing, I try to limp her back to the runway but have to land her on the water. "what happens if..." Thwoosh.... we are thrusted up and backwards. Seems shooting the Bazooka at the water isn't a bad Idea when you have no engine  .

This story doesn't involve being in the game directly but certainly does involve IL-2. I mentioned this earlier in Simhq. This has happened a few times. When I go to the huge family Christmas partys and they are huge I tend to be totally lost. Folks seem to be always talking about the same thing, kids money houses property the job. All very important things but nothing I have a clue about and if someone comes up to me and says.."So Rich what's up?"..."Oh nothing." One of the 12 year olds come up and ask the same question so I think and say to myself why not...Well I go online with this WWII combat Flight Simulator and fly with guys from different countrys from all over the world. "HOLY CRAP THAT SOUNDS SO COOL!!!! So now we have a half hour conversation going on about WWII maps of the countrys the aeroplanes who the guys are I fly with how many years I've been doing it etc etc etc. All of a sudden the adults are looking over at us in this blabbering back and forth between us lol. Finally I tell him where he can get it and he's going to make sure he's going to try it witch he did. Now he's involved in the real thing. So put that in your pipes and smoke it adults.  I still think I'm 16. :music:

Cool :)   Has anyone here told anyone to "check their six" when they were in a car? I've heard of that quite a few times   I've turned round in my chair to do it to look for my friend Venny instead of looking on the monitor.

Well, being a scrub it is easy to mess stuff around me, like spilling coffee or dropping report sheets entering a meeting room, you know, scrub moves.

Now, dropped into Flying Circus server, all good, x1 difficulty is ok for everyone, nothing to worry about although i use no icons and all that fancy hud...

First two i see are two DR.I, "damn huns" i silently speak and go go go up to them. Turning and tumbling and rudder sliding, just like good Blue Max movie sequences I smoke'em.

Being a scrub i think - damn, i'm actually putting up a fight - alas the poor triple wing pilots call me into attentio - HET, what are you doing man !!!

Oh... was flying good and putting up a good fight against my team mates !? Rock'n'roll johnny !

Not many funny episodes with IL2. The only one I can remember was during a the AW2: we was almost entering enemy territory in a finger 4 formation of 109s, at very high altitude. Suddenly the plane of the teammate next to me exploded: it was directly hit by the very first shot of heavy flak. We were all  :o:.

Anyway I've far more funny moments in racing sim and above all in ArmA.

During a official race of the NR2003 Italian championship my teammate was a pair of spots in front of me at Dover: there was a yellow flag and we all went for the pit when a guy behind my teammate spinned him in front of the pitline. I could see his pilot through the windshield as he was now facing me: unbelievably he put the reverse gear and came to his pit in that way, doing a 180° spin just to stop in his pit... As the start I was like   but seeing that all went right (he kept his position on me) we were  .

ArmA's moments instead...

We were waiting for a SEOW test (Malta campaign)... so we waited on TS for almost 1 hour or maybe more. Finally the mission was going to start and my teammate's connection failed because of a blackout.

You know, this guy is a hot-tempered one... so when we started our engines and being a Coop mission (no one could join in), I told my friend to "be prepared!" for the guy reaction.

That incredible rant. And memorable outburst.  :o:

This is something I'm sure everyone's lived once, but eh, why not?

Playing a coop mission and making a bombing run on some motor pool. The lot of us were lined up on target maybe 30 seconds before unleashing, and taking flak all the way. Suddenly one of our guys calls out enemy intercepters. Our escort leaves us, and next thing I know the guy next to me gets shredded in the blink of an eye by machine gun and cannon fire from behind. I did my best to serpentine but now there's not much to be done in a B-25 and I'm looking an FW-190 right in the eye. I was just about to Ctrl-E when all of the sudden he explodes, seemingly for no raisin. Smug in my self-satisfaction, I turned back towards my target. "Now all I gotta do is - "

BLAM!

To recap: First the Anton gets blown up by friendly fire from an 88, and before I even have time to breathe a sigh of relief my cockpit is hit and I die instantaneously. Gotta love that RNG.

In IL2 flying with my squad on the Pearl map we loaded it with targets for practice.  I start up a P-38 and taxi out. Just as I start to throttle up I hit the bail out key, My pilot jumps and starts to run (as they did in IL2) My plane ran over me, killing me and continued down the runway. It took off by itself and flew a few miles before hitting a hill. Because I had bailed out I could not back the throttle down.  TS was nothing but laughter. I got picked on for months after that like "Hey BK,(call sign was BKwolf) you going to fly today or just jump out and watch!" and "Let us take off first BK , we want to watch this from the air"

Yep I've done that. Even years after flying. I remember for days and days trying to blow bridges, static aircraft, tanks etc. with my bombs and always blowing up after I dropped them. Finally asking my friend Pope what the hell is wrong with these bombs?!!!! Do you have the delay checked for at least 2 seconds?..What's a delay?  dah.

LOL..That's a good one Blackwolf. I jumped out of an old He-111 once witch had it's controls damaged. when my chute opened I saw that the He-111 was coming down very slowly in big spiral turns..Oh crap it's going to hit me!! Nope but almost  :o: I think that was actually in the movie The Spirit of St. Louis when Jimmy Stewart had to bail out of an early mail aeroplane he was flying.

I remember someone saying they shot an aircraft down in an online server and the pilot escaped. Seems the simmer had made himself an Elvis Presley pilot skin. That had to be a strange sight - seeing Elvis spread eagle prior to the chute opening as you pass him at 400 kph..

EDIT: I'd have loved to see that. If I remember correctly the pilot did post a picture on the UBI forums.

LOLOLOLOL I was crashing into my friends on the runway in 2001 with IL-2. I remember Stigler the head of 9_JG52 got of in the field and couldn't find the runway. He had too much pride to just respawn and it took him about 10 minutes to find the runway. As old guys know going through the grass in old IL-2 was like going through Russian mud in fall. I should get some of the old VHS tape stuff put on disk that I have. You see the 9_JG52_Hackl. That was me in 2001. The fire in the old game looks great :o:

Thanx mate..

Well we all love the Eastern Front, even though it is very seldom depicted in the few crowded 1946 servers that still exists.. That's why we are so psyched about BoS.

We try not now get stuck in any particular airplane though..or any side.. we love to fly in everything: our big wings might just as well be in a huge stuka formation, fighter formation (any side)... or.. why not B25 or B17 :D

I have some great memories of coops with Blairgowrie (the Ubizoo mod) He regularly would bomb/straf the crap out of friendly convoys and say "jeez they shouldnt be there" and we also flew a BoB mission and he landed on a German controlled airfield and kept saying "why am I being shot at?" :) Great times. Really miss him.
