SOLIDKREATE Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 "The new Bf-110G-2 was first introduced to the war zone in January 1943 when it arrived in Russia. Over the course of 1943 278 Bf-110G-2s were sent to the Eastern Front. Within a month of arriving the aircraft were pressed into action when the Germans were driven out of Stalingrad. With the lack of Russian heavy bombers for the Bf-110 to tackle they were assigned to ground attacks in an effort to slow Russian tanks and troops advancing westward. By the end of 1943 all Bf-110s were withdrawn from Russia." ? Hope so as this was the first true 'Zerstorer'.
707shap_Srbin Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Spectre mate, the bulk of Bf110's in Stalingrad area were "upgraded" Bf110C/D/E's and just a few Bf110F-2/4's.. First batch of brand new Bf110G-2's arrived to I./ZG1 in mid-january 1943 (Gruppe was already at Schakhty airfield, Rostov region)... II./ZG1 got Bf110G-2's after Stalingrad disaster... The third (and the last active at that time) Zerstorer Gruppe - III./ZG26 got G-2's around that time, whyle in Sicily. And it is I even not mention ZG2 (late april - late july 1942), which fought at Voronezh front with only repaired/upgraided Bf110C/D/E... 3/4 of Bf110F were built as F-4's and went to NJG's. But I would love Bf110F-2 in later addons. Attached - Bf110F-4 of Kdr. I./ZG1 Hptm. Wolfgang Schenck, summer 1942. Note SC1000 and SC250 1
