SharpeXB Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 (edited) Interesting. A $200 competitor for the Oculus Rift. I wonder if it will support DX9? http://www.gamespot.com/articles/razer-reveals-open-source-vr-headset-the-osvr/1100-6424485/ Edited March 5, 2015 by SharpeXB
VRnoorbeast Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 I consider there are some ongoing VR misconceptions, at different extremes. On the one hand there are constant comments that even current VR technology is not good enough, particularly around resolution, on the other is that unoptimised obsolete rendering with DX9 can cut it for high end VR. DX9 was made for XP, DX12 is in the pipline. Windows itself does not use DX9 for core graphics and for good reason, its evolution of both hardware and software. If you are interested in gaining and insight into what something like 4K VR rendering is actually going to take to achieve, then have a look at current discussions: http://www.reddit.co...lution_problem/ Can you run a DX9 game on a VR head mounted display, yes you can. Can you run DX9 and match what is possible with current VR top end hardware/software/graphics, let alone what is under development in HMDs, graphics cards and optomised rendering, no you can't. It does not matter if the HMD is OSVR, the Rift or the Vive.
JG27_Chivas Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 OSVR internal tracking isn't good enough yet, they will have too use external cameras, or lasers, to complement the internal tracking to avoid one of the conditions for motion sickness.
