Quick Question About The 109's

Hiya I have tried to do a bit of reading on this online but failed to find anything giving solid information. I am curious to the difference between the 109F4 & G2 we have in this game, the only difference I could find online was that the two have different engines. I assume this makes the G2 slightly heavier but how much does this affect performance? What are the performance differences between these two aircraft such as manoeuvrability, climb rates and speeds (IRL and In game..)  Also does the fact the f4 has the "emergency boost" feature mean it actually can perform better than the G2???   Any answers are appreciated! Thanks

I think you will find most people fly the F4 as there are always G2 left at the airfields in multiplayer .

Yes but why?

The g2 is quicker and heavier and therefore should be a little less maneuverable than the F(not sure if this true in game). The g2 has a more restricted view from the cockpit compared to the F. I fly the F only because I like the boost that the g lacks although I'm not sure if the F is quicker than the G with boost enabled or not + I like the less restrictive cockpit. But all this said I can fly the G and the results are pretty much identical apart from sometimes missing shots cause of the view... So go figure. In sure there are more informed people but to me the difference is day and day with a tiny bit more light in the cockpit

The F4 has better performance because it's engine works at 1.42 ata, unlike the G2, which is limited to 1.3 ata. The weight difference makes F4 more agile and the G2 better suited for boom & zoom.

G2 faster but heavier and less manoeuvrable.

The former doesn't outweigh the latter.

Most people agree that the F series is the high point of the 109.

G2 is slower than the F4 at standard combat power at nearly all altitudes. Practically no point in flying the G2 other than the convenience of not having to worry about overstressing the engine with notleistung. On normal servers even this argument doenst count.

With a simple ctr N the argument does count lol

Thats like comparing apples to oranges, since they use different engines. The G2 at 1.3ata should have AT LEAST the same performance of the F4 in 1.42ata iirc. (Someone correct me if I`m wrong)

You are wrong. The F has roughly the same power at low altitude, a better low altitude prop, lower weight and a less draggy air frame. The F does everything better at low altitude. The G has a larger supercharger and only performs better at high altitude.

Thanks for pointing out the miskates! :salute:  But when I when said 'performance' I was thinking more in the lines of power output of the engines at certain ata's. Not a very good choice of words on my part. Nonetheless, top speed wise the G model should be faster, right ?

If you wanted to compare the DB601E@1.42ata with the DB605A@1.30ata, the DB601 is more powerful. See attachment. So, as long as you are at low altitude and can fly with maximum power output, the F-4 is the better fighter - including being faster. If you fly them both at combat power 1.30ata, they perform about the same at low altitude. Only up high the G-2 is a little better, in particular a little bit faster. I think the differences in game are quite small at high altitude, but quite large at low altitude. So overall, the F-4 is clearly the better fighter.

Out of the two 109s the F4 is the better dogfighter (not that you should fly it like that) it's lighter, turns better and has better over all handling and it's better for lower altitude fights which is where most of the combat happens on the popular servers. On DF type servers people are drawn more to the instant action are less inclined to climb high and stay there on top of which these servers have a large ground pounding element to them, the bombers stay low to survive. We're flying the G2 more than the F4 but then we tend to fly high in a group and restrict our attacks to B&Z or slashing attacks, you really have to avoid getting drawn down lower and especially into any horizontal maneuvers to survive.

F4 is the shit at about 20% fuel

Thanks very much!! All cleared up  :salute:

The G-2 also has a real artificial horizon. Makes me feel a lot safer in the clouds.   :joy:

This may not be true in 1.009 with some of the adjustments but I found the G-2 to be a bit heavier and slightly less twitchy than the F-4 in past patches and its become my 109 of choice even if the overall performance is slightly lower than the higher ATA F-4. I'll have to try them back to back since the update.

Also I like the growl of the DB605 :)
