What do you guys set your gun convergence too? I'm finding 400 overshoots the mark and I don't think I ever really engage enemy planes at anywhere near 400m. Ill probably start testing 200-250...

What are you guys using?

170 for fighters, 350-450 for tank busters

Why such a specific number?

I'm more like 280 to 300. This is after years of practice with IL-2 1946. In both games thats when I feel like I'm in range to hit. It'd good to focus on getting a sense of what your personal preference is and then fine tune the numbers from there.

Yea, so I tried 200 and I was definitely able to hit a HE111 more often when I felt like I should have been hitting him.

I played a mission prior with my convergence set to 600 and my rounds were going over it's wings when my crosshair was right on it at the distance I find myself regularly battling at. Looks like I'm much more comfortable with a low convergence.

it somewhat depends on your style, skills etc; u can experiment and after a while u will see what range u take most of your shots at when air to air...

most of great aces ( which i am not for sure) set their converg really short..

air to ground, same thing, but an additional factor is the ground rushing at u....i find setting longer range gives u more chance to deliver...

by the way, in rl fw-190 a8 set at 500m...

What does this mean? Or did you just mean to tell me the real life default convergence of only 1 plane..??

Yes. It translates to:

In real life, the Focke-Wulf 190 A8 model had its guns set to converge at a distance of 500 metres.

Whether that is true I cannot say, but that's what he typed.

250-270

350-400 when ground pounding or when I know im going bomber hunting

180 for fighters 300 for ground attack, convergence is something very personal,

in my case i try to open fire when the plane is a bit bigger than the crosshair (180-200)

250 for me. Seems to work ok so far. In the original IL-2, I set machine guns to 300, and cannons to 200. I guess this a compromise of those settings. ;)

A way to check.  Go into QMB and set up a mission with many friendlies to shoot at, etc.  Once in the cockpit, turn record on.  With icons off, go shooting and only open fire at the ranges where you would normally.  Review the track and it will show the distances when you opened fire (if the icon says .30, that is 300m).  In this example, set your convergence to 300m and try again.  Even in this example setting them at 250 would not be a problem.

The Revi is a range-finding reflector sight.  In 'Normal' settings that isn't so important because the sim provides you with an exact figure for range,  But in RL you could probably calculate range down to about 50 m using the graduations on the sighting reticule.

I have my weapons harmonized to 350m because I do a lot of shooting (though seldom effectively) at wide deflection angles.

There are a number of booklets available on line (British, German, American) which detail the use of reflector sights.  They're well worth hunting down for a look.

I use 500m because I'm usually high energy deflection shooting rather than close up dogfighting. And with all the nose mounts in this game it doesn't really matter, it's all psychological. When the P-40 comes around with the wing mounted 12.7's, I may move it down to 300m.

I find 350 to 400 the best even though I will often be closer around 300. I find keeping a balanced range means that u won't get caught with ur pants down if u have to make a long range shot

260-300 is what i use for air to air. And like 350 for air to ground.
