SCG_Neun Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Well for what it's worth from a single player perspective, I have to say with Lupson's simple mission building tool and parser, this game is shaping up for me. I'm not sure how ground activity is going to pan out on mid level systems.....On my system it does slow things down a bit. But air combat is running very smooth for me and the AI is behaving much better than before. All in all, with the new update and the FMB in addition to 3rd party contributions...I feel like this game is headed in the right direction. Let's just say...I'm having fun again..... To the modders out there....and that includes all you skinners out there....a big thank you. AMD FX4170 @ 4.3 GHz 8GB System RAM NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770
Bearcat Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 I never understood why anyone had doubts... Concerns... sure that is understandable considering the way that all this panned out.. it all certainly could have been handled better at a few key junctures .. but I never did understand the level and intensity and the personal nature of a lot of the consternation over this title.. I never had any doubts that things would improve and even at their worst I never felt that they justified some of the stuff that has taken place over the past 5 months.I am glad that you now feel better about it... as do many it seems.. I am looking forward to the next 6-30 months..
GOAT-ACEOFACES Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Yeah I'm getting flash backs of early 2000ish when IL2 first came out! I only wish I wasn't so old and so busy! Oh for the days when I was a young engineer with more money than sense and no responsibilities at work! Than I could spend the whole weekend playing flight sims like I use to!
BlitzPig_EL Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 (edited) What AoA said. I admit I still have doubts, as multiplayer is indeed a wasteland, Saturday night when I was on there were only 44 people in total flying in all the servers showing up in the browser. With the size of the maps you would need twice that number to keep any one mission from feeling like a wasteland, and I don't think the engine can do that well, though I may be wrong on the numbers. I agree with the both of you especially what AOA said...it really is very nostalgic flying G2 against Yak-1 for us old JG5 guys. Regarding multiplayer we're going to have a go at setting up a dedicated server and find some other squads to fly CO-OPs against like we used to do on Hyperlobby....the hard bit is not having a lobby to chat in so maybe a steam group or ICQ contact list might work so we can find other squads...organising it in advise on a forum is not going to work. I miss my Co-Ops!! Emil
71st_AH_Hooves Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Its lookin good. I really would like to see some of the basics that were removed, make their way back in. Cough F11 cough. Thats a great place to start anyway.
ST_ami7b5 Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 (edited) I agree with all above... The only thing I am scared of are the microstutters that came after the last patch and the game slow-down J9 mentioned. I placed12 planes on my home airfield and game went to a slow-down and jerky movie about 50% of its normal speed even when just looking around my cockpit... As there seem to be many players affected and a special topic for this was already created I hope devs will solve the problem. Edited March 2, 2015 by ST_ami7b5
StG2_Manfred Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 All in all I'm also very happy with what the developers have delivered so far. The quality is really superb and the update interval is impressive! Don't get too worried about the microstutters and the invisible airfileds. Those are normal bugs which will be fixed soon for sure.
Weegie Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 +1 to all. I don't post much but lurk quite a bit. I just find some of the sniping and micro nit picking soooo funny. For the cash its a great sim/game/whatever, even the unlocks had a way around before you had options, I love what is being done and the graphics are stunning. I find it quite a challenge just flying and landing the aircraft and often don't do any combat, just take off fly around admire the scenery and then crash. (my landing techniques need honing).
-NW-ChiefRedCloud Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Let me jump on this happy bandwagon and just say I am seriously impressed with this Simulation. Yes there are some things that most all of us would like to see changed or reworked. But all in all we have a lot to be thankful for. Chief
Guest deleted@30725 Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 (edited) Had my moneys worth even if I walked away from it now. Picked it up again recently and the new changes are nice. I look forward to supporting their future project as well. Not only the game, but I've learnt a lot more about the real battle of Stalingrad and discovered all about the Russian planes thanks to BOS. I now enjoy flying them as much as the Germans in the game. Whereas before I was like '109. I must only fly the 109'. How ignorant of me. It was never going to be a smooth release. They hardly are these days being so big and complex as they are. I'm glad the devs have kept working on it. I think this is good news for their future effort and will bring confidence to anyone who was turned off by the initial release of bos. I would not have been interested in their new game a few months ago and now I'm ready to hand over my money for it. I still miss the daily dev blog post as the game grew. It was really interesting to see the progress and for the dev team to put that much effort into keeping their customers in the loop. I've been impressed by the level of interaction from people such as Jason, etc who speak with truth and transparency. I get it, games are hard to make and only after loads of people have played it can you really find all the problems. I'd be a fool to think you could make a modern video game without any problems and have it work flawlessly on thousands of different hardware configurations around the globe with a fairly small team. But when it's all said and done, regardless of the design choices I think the game does a pretty good job of being a fun activity to do with friends, on your own or with complete strangers who love either the game or flying planes just as much as you do. I love reading the forums and seeing the drama queen rage posts, the happy topics like this, people spending a lot of their own time trying to point out game problems or help tune flight models whether they're right or wrong. Youtubers making informative and helpful videos to share their experience. For all the players who have created awesome skins with their fantastic artistic skills. A game is much about it's players as the content it provides. I'm glad to have interacted with this small community that in the grand scheme of things is insignificant. It's never going to change the world. What I write here is not going to be archival history in 100 years time, but it's about the here and now. History will look back and decide without bias whether this game was any good. I think they did OK. They can be proud of their work. I would be. Edited March 2, 2015 by deleted@30725

No601_Swallow Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 (edited) Heh, spot on... Yeah, but with a bit more awe. I was online in our server (someone in my squadron has already received his DServer key), just tooling around, and chatting the breeze with a couple of squdronmates. A couple of conclusions: So 1) It's gorgeous. It just looks lovely. Spawn in, take a look around. We usually have externals on, so do a bit of a walkaround. It's just lovely. And the lighting is - I think - as beautiful or more than anything in a video game I've ever seen. 2) It works. I did a taxiing U-turn in my IL2 to get to the runway behind me. I knew it would be bumpy cutting across the snow, but I also knew I wouldn't hit invisible ditches or holes or -flip-me-up-for-no-reason invisible obstacles. That's a comparison (with a certain other sim) right there. 3) The IL2 cockpit looked gorgeous. It really really was. I understood (finally) about the diamond shape in the windscreen [panels of bullet-resistant glass). It's a lovely plane to fly, the IL2. To sum up: as a group my squadron is getting excited about BoS. Messing around in our own server this last week has been simple and stupid fun and seems to have been a catalyst in recapturing the feeling of those old days in IL2 - before FB, when Men were Men and drove Migs (with Hurricane Skins) ... SCG_Space_Ghost Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 But satisfaction (no matter who brings it) is always important. Chief Sure... But that certainly wasn't the point I was addressing. Doubts are certainly due.

SCG_Space_Ghost Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 -snip- new genre... Good for you..? I agree on the "New Genre" part... Combat Flight Game... Not Combat Flight Sim.
Bearcat Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Doubts are never unjustified in this genre. Not sure what you mean by that example.. but all things being what they are.. even at this juncture.. CoD is better than it has ever been.. AMD FX4170 @ 4.3 GHz 8GB System RAM NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 Is this a middle range system for you?! I should say it is a middle high system! Or even high. I would say an upper middle system.. Not high... not any high ... but upper middle.. Sure... But that certainly wasn't the point I was addressing. Doubts are certainly due. I disagree.. I th that whatever doubts there may have been room for have been dispelled with the last update. There may be doubtrs that this product is for you... being a generic you.. not YOU... (unless of course it applies) but there are no doubts IMO that BoS is a viable sim.. that it is a contender.. and that it can indeed evolve into a worthy successor to the IL2 name ... No doubts that it's team is in it for the long haul.. that they do indeed have a plan.. and one that involved expansion and growth as opposed to abandonment and mediocrity.

What I meant by the Cliffs logo is this: Never trust the plans, intentions, schemes or words of a game developer. Always cast doubt. Never get comfortable. I'm not going to bother rehashing my doubts - they are well established throughout these boards. I disagree that the last update dispelled my looming doubts - rather, it created some more doubts for me. I will reiterate since it fits... Never get comfortable. Always cast doubt... Or all you will get is mediocrity. I've said it before - we're all here for the same thing... We don't all measure progress the same way. Viable - yes. Mediocre - as far as I am concerned. (Aside: Abandoned? No... Not yet... But IL2 and Cliffs of Dover didn't meet their potential until they were abandoned.) Edited March 3, 2015 by 4./JG26_Adler

Nicely put put it would be nice to be able to see the runways from farther away. Might even prevent me from single handily destroying the Luftwaffe complete inventory. If I'd been in the Luftwaffe back in the day the siege would have lasted about a week
