BlitzPig_EL Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Saw several names I recognize from here. Promptly got totally lost because I can't make heads or tails out of where I'm at with all that snow. I'll get better at it, but I need more practice in the full difficulty servers. When I came in the Luftwaffe was down on players, so that's the side I joined. Hopped in a 109 F4 and tried to fly it in a proper Germanic way. (I'm no 109 ace by any standard). I climbed out to 3500 to 4000 meters and flew around for a while, Very peaceful up there with NO ONE else but me at that altitude. So I flew over towards Stalingrad and decided to drop down over one of the VVS bases and stir up the pot a bit. I did have a couple of rules for myself though, foremost was to NEVER let my speed drop below 450kph, and never, ever, turn with a Yak. Sure enough I spotted a couple of Yaks but I was not in a good position to fire on them, so discretion was the better part of valor and I pulled up and went to combat power to try to reposition. I looked over my shoulder and saw tracers from one of them, but he was not leading me well so I took no hits. Not feeling like taking on two of them I reversed by going to full power, rolling on my back and looping under them at an indicated 700kph. Had to add a lot of up trim to keep from auguring in and I was on the edge of blackout, but I pulled it off and just flew away from them on the deck. I saw no reason to press a fight against two of them that might have been on comms so I flew back towards the West and found, by luck, one of our fields and landed with about 25% fuel left. I then got in a Stuka intent on some ground pounding and while climbing out, Hooves came on chat and wanted to restart the server, so at that point I bailed, as it was late. OK, I have the online bug again. Odd how just one sortie, even if it came to no victories, hooked me. I'll be back... 1
BlitzPig_EL Posted March 1, 2015 Author Posted March 1, 2015 (edited) If I could remember I'd put it in there. Getting old has it's issues... Pretty sure it must have been a West Coast US one, as the ping was very low and it was late here in Ohio, yet they had a lot of folks there. I just went in the game and looked... TWB-the Hideout- is the name of the server. Edited March 1, 2015 by BlitzPig_EL
216th_Xenos Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 At what time is that server populated? The mission looks fantastic but it's always been empty when I log on as I'm on the GMT side of the ocean.
Guest deleted@13284 Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 I find that this great tool can help navigation on full real servers https://1a46437e3326b7d250210e9e2c158ef9b0a5893e.googledrive.com/host/0BwbLWsLToYhddlhidkxNcWZ6RG8/newmap.html
Sokol1 Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Promptly got totally lost because I can't make heads or tails out of where I'm at with all that snow I bet that most of people that say that became lost because are flying over snow, will became lost if are flying over sand, steppe, forest... to not say sea.

1./KG4_Blackwolf Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Promptly got totally lost because I can't make heads or tails out of where I'm at with all that snow. As my buddy said "I'm not lost, I just don't know where I am"
AbortedMan Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 TWB's The Hideout server is in North America...Kansas City, I think. They've been kind enough to host my mission while I make additions and changes to it (recently added AI German bomber raids). For now, it is the reincarnation of The Eagle's Nest. 3

-NW-ChiefRedCloud Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 I bet that most of people that say that became lost because are flying over snow, will became lost if are flying over sand, steppe, forest... to not say sea. If it weren't for the fact that I was one of those lost souls (pilots), I might disagree with you. Myself and two of my friends ended up on a DeD Expert server the other night and after they patiently waited for me to get airborne, I promptly lost them. Then with their help I found them again. Only to loose them a second time. Well I flew around trying to track their heading and thought I had found them. At least it was a P-2. But then it jinxed away from me as if I was the enemy and I lost him. So lost in the air is relative to me ..... in other words, I'm kin to it ..... Chief
6./ZG26_Gielow Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 (edited) You need to plan your flight/mission before take off. It seems obvious but most people just take off and start to wander around with no clear objective or keep changing their minds all the time about where to go or what to do. Remember first death star trench run?? Stay on target!! Stay on target!!! Kaboom hehe Edited March 2, 2015 by =[Coffin]=Gielow
