Jupp Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 ~S~ Everyone, Even though many people are decrying how complex it is, I find it to be a hobby within a hobby to get it all sorted out and functional. Currently I am teaching myself through the age old practice of trial and error. Again, this to me, IS fun, in and of itself. Learn, teach, learn, teach :|| There is a lot to be said on the positive side of things, such as, MCU's are actually push button Scripting, something great for "those in the know". Anyway, this is just a "my first impression thread" from a user point of view. We all should share our collective knowledge, for everyone to enjoy this. "Hit the Lights", -Jupp- 4
Jupp Posted March 1, 2015 Author Posted March 1, 2015 ~S~ Finkeren, That was exactly my reference! Great minds they say... And ~S~ Gramps, thanks for the +1 Cheers, -Jupp-
ShamrockOneFive Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Cool. I'm having a terrible time with it right now. It's very intimidating to get started... But I'm going to keep fiddling with it till something makes sense. There are some good tutorials out there so that helps a lot. 1
DD_APHill Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 I cannot seem to be able to play a mission I created. I save the mission to both mission folder and multiplayer/ dogfight folder . When I go to missions in game, all I see are the canned ones. I cannot as in ROF go to multiplayer and "create a new server" I'm sure I must just be missing something. I am familiar with the mission editor in ROF. BOS seems to have somethings either different or missing. Can somone show me what I am obviously missing?
rigbyDerekb1948 Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Please excuse my (genuine) ignorance in this regard, but where does one access the "Full Mission Editor"? Is it essentially the same as the "Full Mission Builder" in CoD and the "Mission Editor" in DCS?
FlatSpinMan Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Go into the BoS folder in program files, look in 'bin' for an exe. The editor is a separate program. On the RoF site, download the RoF Mission Editor User Manual to help get going, look in the Mission Builder's forum here, and check out the YouTube tutorials.
rigbyDerekb1948 Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Thanks, FlatSpinMan, I found the program. Rigby.
wtornado Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 At least you got you'res to work I can't even access mine at first there was a dll screwed up in it.and now it says I do not have permission to access it with everything in the Properties\permissions\security of the .exe fully activated. Almost uninstalled the whole game from Steam this morning. I guess I have become spoiled with World of Tanks and other Games I have that are 100% hassle free. Gone are the days of mods and bugs and crap for me.
Jupp Posted March 2, 2015 Author Posted March 2, 2015 Cardinal Rule # 1 : When creating missions use only first four mission types (Single, Cooperative, Dogfight and Training), the other mission types in the list, are used by mission generator. -ROF ME User Manual-
wtornado Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Tried everything redid the game integrity tried all in the permissions as administrator. The weirdest part is when the Editor icon appears and disappears when you click on it. It comes back on its own after a while That is not normal. Will not open access permission denied and I am the admin lol.
dburne Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Cardinal Rule # 1 : When creating missions use only first four mission types (Single, Cooperative, Dogfight and Training), the other mission types in the list, are used by mission generator. -ROF ME User Manual- I see " single" and "cooperatitve", but do not see " dogfight" or " training" in the mission type drop down box...
Jupp Posted March 2, 2015 Author Posted March 2, 2015 ~S~ Tornado, There must be a buncha technical, systemic, hardware, and Steam related discussion to get you on your feet with this... I had no trouble getting it fired up first try here, Windows Home 64-bit, Desktop HP Quad 3.4, 2GB Nv GTX660, 16 GB Ram on the MB, non-Steam version. You'll be breaking, or fixing rather, new grounds with that. Sorry I cannot help you there, otherwise, Best of Luck! ~S~ dburne True enough. The RoF ME was stripped up for BoS, and the Manual for it has many mistakes, typos, and not applicables to the state that the BoS ME is now in. So, we can thus gather in elimination, the two types of missions we can work on are Single (saved to Missions folder) and Co-Operative (saved to Multiplayer folder). I supposed I should have just posted it that way, however I did "quote" the RoF ME User Manual as it is, in form, currently available in the Main Folder of Rise of Flight. With the explanation of "the other mission types in the list, are used by mission generator ", it is deducible then, that the Dogfight, and Training Missions are not usable in BoS as well. A lesson learned unto itself. The RoF ME is not the end all be all of the BoS ME. Sorry the confusion, -Jupp- P/S - I am definitely going to produce a comprehensive "New and Improved Battle of Stalingrad Specific Mission Editor Tutorial" when my own findings and skills are solidified.
dburne Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 (edited) P/S - I am definitely going to produce a comprehensive "New and Improved Battle of Stalingrad Specific Mission Editor Tutorial" when my own findings and skills are solidified. It would be nice if the developers tweaked the guide to make it an official BOS ME guide, lacking that however anything like what you mentioned would certainly be appreciated! So all those other selections in the mission type drop down box would be irrelevant for an individual trying to create a group of missions ? I have never gotten into trying to create missions/campaigns in my other sims, but due to circumstances I will probably have a lot more time available to me and may want to try and wrap my arms around using the FME... maybe... not sure I will be able to but interested in trying to learn something new I guess. Edit: I do see " campaign" listed in that drop down box, does this mean a user can create a group of missions into a campaign? Thanks for your efforts, Edited March 2, 2015 by dburne

"Hit the Lights", -Jupp- Welcome, Brother Jupp to the Secret Fellowship of Mission Builders. You have discovered The Secret (making missions is actually more fun than flying them). You'll find your Black Cowl of Testing and your Setsquare of Infinite Patience" over there on the left...
Jupp Posted March 2, 2015 Author Posted March 2, 2015 ~S~ dburne, Thank you. I fully agree. My forte' is in having been a user / fan / consumer of many flight sims, and modding, over the course of the last 15 years. I have a high-degree of reading comprehension, and, was an Attack Helicopter Crew Chief Mechanic on AH-1 Cobras, for some background... However, my greatest wish, in any of this, is to demystify the unknown, and confusing, aspects of enjoying our hobby to the fullest, for everyone. I will certainly re-triple my efforts towards expeditious release of concise, revised, and simplified instructions concerning the ME's transition from RoF to BoS. At this time, we know that Single Player Offline Mode Campaigns are possible, as Veteran66's ChirFront release has already exampled. That is for certain. I'm just really good at understanding the wide scope, history, and methodology of mission writing, being a self-taught Jack of All Trades, Master of None. Whew! Hope that all is encouraging. Glad that I helped clarify the start up interest in this for you! ~S~ Swallow, That's high praise, and a welcomed tap on the shoulder, coming from someone of your caliber. I only hope to follow where eagles dare. "Keep Looking Up", -Jupp- 1
dburne Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Sounds good, thanks Jupp, looking forward to more info from you to come!

Do not select Cooperative in Mission type. That's dedicated to a cooperative mod which doesn't exist in Bos. You have two choices : Single mission : Select Single Multiplayer mission : Select Deathmatch Single mission must be in Data/Mission Multiplayer mission must be in Data/Multiplayer/Dogfight 1

The dream is that you open your game. You choose online mod. You click on ''Multiplayer'' You click on ''create server'' You click on ''create co-op ''. And you start your lag free close proximity player co-op with zero lag. right in Canada or North America Let me dream while I still fly this game offline and play the old IL-2 in the Hyperlobby don't wreck my fantasy and this dream. Please do something soon I am sick of of playing World of Tanks too. Back in 2 weeks or the next patch which ever comes first to check.
Y-29.Silky Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 It's not too bad at all if you have a little programming experience behind you.
